mustang II rack & pinion question
So I have a small leak on my mustang II rack & pinion and it seems to be from the large (I think plastic) nut more towards the drivers side section facing fwd and down. I tightened it down some and it easily turned. But I assumed this was just a cap for some adjustment inside. I don't think its fluid running down to this area but there is that possibility. I inspected it very well I think.
So is this a nut that should be tightened to avoid leaks or just a cap? |

Not exactly but pretty close.
Looks like the black one listed on this page. http://www.rjays.com/Front_End/MII-steering-01.htm Notice the large nut next to the right mounting section? thats the one that appears to leak some. |

Re: mustang II rack & pinion question
It is the pinion bearing plug, found it on another diagram. Same as in the diagram above which just shows "plug" then "O ring". Is there really fluid behind this and maybe even pressurized fluid?

Re: mustang II rack & pinion question
Most of the pressure is on the other end of the pinion at the spool valve and then through the rack piston. I would think if you removed the plug and installed a new oring, you should be ok.

Re: mustang II rack & pinion question
thanks. I tightened it up for now and so far no leaks. It was almost hand tight. I'll keep an eye on it. I sent you a PM btw.
