granny SM465 to Muncie m22(etc) SWAP ?'s
my trucks got a very mild 355, and the sm465 is crap lol.i hate it so much.
I would love to throw in a 4 speed muncie. now, To perform the swap from the current sm465 with a granny low to the muncie 4 speed, what will need to be done? any parts needed? From pics, it looks like it would almost bolt up to the sm465 bell housing? any info and help would be great. ive tried searching, but the very few threads i found were auto to muncie swaps etc. 1982 stepside shortbed

It bolts right in.
As Bruiser said, it may move the shifter back a little. Not a major issue if you are not afraid to enlarge the shifter hole a bit. You may also need the driveshaft shortened. Not a major issue and will probably cost less than $100. |

Had a drive shaft shortened and balanced by Phoenix Driveline or maybe it was called AZ Driveline... whatever... $75 last year. Check out 5speeds.com for lots of good info on the Muncie, casting numbers, ratios, etc. Not affiliated to any of the above BTW, good luck

Re: granny SM465 to Muncie m22(etc) SWAP ?'s
You need to change the bellhousing to a chevrolet car or aftermarket. As stated above the hole is larger on the truck bellhousing. Although the m22 ( or any other GM car transmission) will bolt on to the truck bellhousing it won't align properly. I know first hand. My M21 lasted 1 week bolted to a truck bellhousing before I found out the hard $ way. As stated above, driveshaft hole in floor will change. Clutch is same.
I'm thinking S10 with T5,4.3 bellhousing should be a bolt on cheap option if you have(or want) hydro clutch. You may need a 153? tooth flywheel? if you use the S10 bellhousing. not sure. Lots of them in wrecking yards Posted via Mobile Device Last edited by wraprail; 01-17-2013 at 07:26 PM. |

I dont know the dimensions of a m22 but my super10 bolted right on to the stock cross member without having to move it. I went from th350 to super t10 with a scatter shield. not sure if the shifters are in the same spot, but if they are ill send you measurements where to cut the hole in the floor.
