My old neighbor, Dale, bought a brand new orange/red C10 in 1971. If you own that truck today, you should be able to identify it by the thousands of empty Coor's cans in the bed, and the smell of stale Marlboro smoke in the cab. Dale was a good old dude. You would have liked him.

Yes, But you probably have already looked. The warranty book with protect o plate and the build sheet are your only sources and they MIGHT be in the truck. Sometimes a sales contract too can be found if you are very lucky.

ya know, the nearly impossible to read receipts don't really help (us).
So, assuming you've scoured the receipts for names and dates and googled the names, starting with the oldest ones first, and came up empty, you're probably not going to get much farther. There seems to be a rash of this on here lately.. Anyway, I'd recommend the following, in case you haven't done it yet:

Write down all names from the receipts, oldest date receipt to newest date recepit.
Google them.
If you want to spend money, pay for a people search online, but not sure that will get you any further than google.
Have you looked for the build sheet under the seat?
Old registrations?
Googled the name of the shop that you said was as far back as you could find records of? Found the owner, asked him about records? If you have, he probably hung up on you, but...

Anyway, beyond all that, carfax might, might help you if it was in a wreck or something like that.

Can't think of any other ideas, but maybe someone else here can help. Good luck with your search, hope you can find the orig owner.

Maybe harrass these folk: http://www.facebook.com/public/Terry-Morris (Terry Morris on Facebook) - try linkedin, etc. Folks will not be real receptive, but if you are hardover, then go for it. However, personally, I don't think it's real nice to go pestering total strangers asking them if they bought an old chev truck in the 70's (so don't be surprised if they don't reply or friend you). How's that for FB lingo! I still don't have an account..

As mentioned before, doing a VIN history check would probably net you the most information you could legally get your hands on. Unfortunately you have to pay for this. The DMV might give you that info if you ask, but they will probably charge you for it.
