Side panels/flashes/two tone - Which trucks got them?

Hope that makes sense as a heading.

I have been looking at these truck and as time continues, I have developed a liking for trucks with side panels, or chrome work that enhances the use of two tone paint schemes.

I know two tone is easy enough with the roof, and bit of paint, but please tel me more about the trucks with chrome down the side, allowing for two tone panels to be created.

Some trucks are all the same colours, but some are colored in.

Were there "De Luxe" models or were they just dealer fit spec items?

I am also more interested in SWB Fleetside trucks as that is probably ultimately what we will end up with.

Some pics of what I like and mean.

Thiis appears to be a SWB, but of course I could be very wrong.

And this one I have never seen, but like a lot as well.

Obviously one can do two tone in many ways.....

Thanks for your help, again.

Partly answered my own question....

Yes, SWB Fleets can wear the side trim.

Next question is.... what year did they start ?

If I wanted a '60, '61 for the beauty of its ugly bonnet, could I still have the side trim ?

Hi Grizz
good luck with your search! You should probably help out the rednecks in the good old USA and explain that the "bonnet" is the hood......

I remember buying a 55 Chevy convertible years ago from a British lady, she told me over the phone it needed a new "hood"......when I got there I realized the convertible top fabric was completely gone from the frame, and the "hood" was perfectly fine! And everyone says we speak the same language!

What more can I say??

Being from South Africa I have a double translation to handle.....

I sometimes think that the worst English speakers are the English.

My own wife will often purchase an item in a store and tell me she "brought" it for £9.99 but then when she "bought" it home found the size was wrong.... So dont get me started.

Fenders are mudguards
Hoods are bonnets and thats just the start.

You got me chuckling now.

You're not alone. I love the side trim. The truck I just bought has the Custom Chrome (bumper/grille/windshield/cab plates), but not the Custom side trim. I definitely want to add it. I hope to find driver-quality used. New is around $400. Nice that it is available, though!

1960 Chevrolet had a one year molding that connected the two cab trim plates across the back. The trim plates had a taper on their tails to accept the rear molding.

1961-63 the Cab Trim Plates no longer had the tapered tails.

1964-66 had a different Cab Trim Plates. CUSTOM was brought up to the midway point and dropped the Chevrolet logo.

GRIZZ, THE LAST PICTURE IN YOUR 1ST POST ABOUT COLOR SCHEMES AND CHROME......THAT TRUCK IS A GMC AND THEY ARE UNIQUELY DIFFERENT THAT A CHEVROLET IN HOW THEY WERE PAINTED, THE CHROME TRIM, THE DASH, THE HOOD, AND THE FRONT GRILL........

THERE WERE A LOT FEWER GMC TRUCKS BUILT AND MOST IN THIS ERA HAD A V6 ENGINE INSTEAD OF THE INLINE 6 OR A V8........I LIKE GMC'S BUT I MAY BE A LITTLE PREJUDICED..........KIETH

There you have ,made me chuckle like a drain

Anyhow, I may have mentioned that I personally lean toward the GMC looks, but Nicola does not, so if I want any truck, it has to be a Chevy.

That however should not stop me from looking at bringing in a GMC grille if they are interchangeable.....
