Removing Cab
So I'm in the process of a complete tear down- I'm to the point that I'm ready to lift the cab off and I have a couple of questions. I have removed the bench seat and the in cab gas tank (replacing with a Boyd's in the rear). So first question - should I just cut the front lip off the existing mount and leave the remaining piece of it or should I attempt remove the entire piece at the spot welds -what are other people doing? Next I'm wondering if there's an easy way just to remove the shifter without unbolting the top of the tranny - rather not get in over my head - looks like there's a little pin on the left side - if I remove that will I be able to pull the shaft up and out? does that work and has anyone had any luck at doing so? Thanks in advance for any insight.

the shifter if you push down on the metal piece around the base of shifter rod and you will feel the spring tension then just turn it a 1/4 turn and it will pop up make sure you have the tranny in nuetral and then it will pull right up as far as the tank mounts I am not sure what I am gonna do with mine last truck I just cut them off flush but this one I currently have not sure how I will end up doing it once you get the floor covering on you will never see it anyhow Mine has seats out of a 2001 chevy truck power buckets with center fold down console think on this one I am gonna drill out my rivets

Thanks Travz500 - I learn something new every day with this project. I was leaning toward drilling out the rivets too - even though no one will see it - I'll still know it's there lol. Thanks for insight.

The shifter i find is easier to take off if you put a pliers on the tab that sticks out and use it to twist it off while applying downward presser and pushing down with a flat head on the opposite side. Just a tip because when i did mine the first time it was kind of a pain.
but looking at your picture i cant tell if you have a tab or not. heck mine may not even be original. Just a thought |

I wouldn't cut the whole gas tank support out. I believe that it ads support to the area. If you look directly under that spot on the bottom of the cab, that is where your cab support to the frame is located. I'd just cut the horns of if you feel the need.
