1965 Barn Find SWB BBW

Well here we go... I am going to go ahead and start a thread on this one cause it is going to at lease get put back on the road... It was pulled from a barn in Central Oklahoma... Craigslist rocks....

99 percent original (grill and upper grill support is from a 60-62) wiring is in great condition everything works exc the front signal lights. 283 three on the tree... Battery and inspection sticker is from 1987. So I assume that it has been parked for about 25 years. The lady said it was her grandpas truck and he bought it new. Very little rust in the cab... Some rust in the eyebrow on one side. The fenders are not even that bad. Tail gate is rusted all over. The cab corners are perfect along with the rockers. It is beat up pretty good but I think I will keep it that way..

It may sit for a bit till the Caprickup gets further along but I intend to pull the plugs, put some trans fluid in the cylinders then see if the motor will turn over..

Anyway.... I am a little bit excited... This is the truck I wanted in the first place. Love the Caprickup but it looks like I will now have two!!!!!

Congratulations on your find. Mine also was a barn find that was setting since 1981. I couldn't wait to get home and tear it apart. Craigslist does indeed rock. What is your plans?

One question is the rubber floor mats appear to be original and in great shape. But there is a thin foam sheet under it. It is formed to the floor pan and it appears to be factory. It has holes in the factory locations. Does anyone know if this is factory?

Re: 1965 Barn Find SWB BBW

Thanks Durg, I figured it was factory.. Working on freeing up the engine. It had six "antiplug foul adapters" between the engine and plug. Never seen them before but I guess they still sale them. Everything leans towards the engine needs a rebuild, if it is even rebuildable. Number 7 came out with a heavy amount of rust on the end of it. I do not want to do any heavy engine work until I get the caprickup a little further along.. So I better get focused...

Re: 1965 Barn Find SWB BBW

Question: I have been struggling with a direction on this truck. I would like to go original but the motor appears to be toast. I have a 350 turbo 400 that is in great shape along with a factory 65 auto column and a power steering gear box. But what is more desirable?? Tell me which direction would you go??

Re: 1965 Barn Find SWB BBW

Completely unbiased here, but I would go with the 283/PG combo I have for sale...

Hey, new to the forum (I joined because of your Caprickup project!) I know this is an old thread, but in case you haven't decided what to do... I'd stick the 350 in there with the factory 3 speed. 3 speed trucks with a good column shifter still installed are rather hard to come by anymore. I'd also stick as much of the trim and bracketry as possible from the 283 onto the 350. Those are a couple of cool trucks you got there, can't wait to see more of that Caprickup!

Re: 1965 Barn Find SWB BBW

I picked up Rockyonka engine and powerglide but I agree three on the tree is getting rarer and a bonus would be that none of my kids could drive it. This project is on hold. Actually could be for sale just simply because my focus is on the caprickup. I really can't afford to do this truck justice. But for now it is sitting while I finish the other truck.

Ahhh but the beauty of it is that they dont spoil, or mould away if parked for a couple years. The trick is to know that you are going to get to it next tho. Kinda like investing in the future.

We bought a 56 two ton dump bed last August and parked it, knowing full well it is going to be 3 to 5 years before I can lay hands on it. But for $675 I could not pass it up and it is next on the list after my current build.

Food for thought if you have the space to let it sit aside...
