Help - door weather seal

I bought the weather seals for the doors from LMC. These are the seals you glue in. With the driver's door, you really have to give it a good slam to shut it, but with the passenger door, you can put 180 lbs. on it and it still won't shut. The only thing I can think of is the weather seals from LMC. Has anyone ever had the same problem and if so, what did you do about it?

Should I go with a precision weather seal (push on), or is there a trick to the LMC one's (or are they just junk)? Very frustrated.

THey all do that when they're new. Use a hair dryer to soften them and close the door several times. You might need to adjust your door latch out a bit till they conform.

The precision push on seals are the way to go IMO. Got mine from GMCPaul, probably the best aftermarket part I have purchased. Your door adjustment plays a big factor in it too.

Yeah you can remove them pretty easy. I just got mine in from gmc Paul's. They are nice but I don't like that they don't cover up much as the glue on ones do. So if you have the glue on ones you have to scrape off the old adhesive. Once you do this you can install the push on ones but they will not cover up most of the scraped off area so I am having to repaint some areas.

Heard If you leave the joint cut where they join together cut at a 45 under the step plate with a 1/16" gap the doors close better allowing air to equalize making them easier to close. Anyone confirm this?

That is 100% correct, this is recommended to be done in the factory service manuals under the body section for installing new door weatherstrip, if you do not do this it traps air making it more difficult to close doors.

3M the manufacturer of the door weatherstrip glue sells a spray on adhesive removal for removing your original glue without damaging the paint underneath the dried glue. Its available in every state Except for Calif. which has regulations againest it being for sale in the state.

They can be removed and reinstalled repeatedly.

Re: Help - door weather seal

Had a friend who had the same problem as you, tried the hairdryer, got it but just hope no one can see or notice it lol we go through gmcpauls for all seals....and get the push on if you decide to get new ones....

Note....buy from a company or person who either has and or who loves these trucks....not a company who's in it for just the money....

Good luck

Re: Help - door weather seal

Having the same issues with mine. I've tried both types that GMC Paul's offers, the push-on type first, and the glue-on ones later. The glue-on seals help the situation a little, but it still takes way too much effort to shut the doors.

I'm thinking it must just be the way it is with new seals.

im pretty sure it should be tight being brand new seals.... maybe when it heats up some, seals get molded a bit... it hopefully should be a solid shut.... good luck, keep everyone posted please
