Re: prepping for carpet....
I would hit it with a rust converter and at least primer before putting the carpet down.
If my floors had looked like that I would have jumped for joy!!!

Re: prepping for carpet....
would you grind off all the rust to get to bare metal then hit with rust paint?

Re: prepping for carpet....
I'd just wire brush it, then do rust converter, then paint. Most of the converters just require no loose scale.

Re: prepping for carpet....
x3. Consider some sound deadener while you have nothing in there. I put FatMat and Reflectix in mine and its much quieter and warmer.

Re: prepping for carpet....
I think its useful to do both. I put down a paper backed asphalt type sound deadener, then jute padding and rubber flooring. Huge difference in noise compared to bare steel floor....LOL.
Rubber floor I bought sucked, so it will soon be replaced with ACC carpet.

Re: prepping for carpet....
I'd do both. It's not expensive unless you go with Dynamat

Re: prepping for carpet....
I'm about to buy the MIP floor from LMC. What type of rubber floor did you use?

Re: prepping for carpet....
In addition to all the good ideas so far-----Id go one step further. (I hate rust)
When you clean and coat the inside floor with whatever rust encapsulator you prefer-- Id also clean the under side of the flor and coat it also--sealing both sides of the metal. Then,,, do some checking as to why the floor is rusting---is water comming in around rubber grommets on the firewall? Do you have a windshield rubber leaking? Try to eliminate the source as well as repair the damage.

Re: prepping for carpet....
I got the one from LMC that is supposed to be the heavy duty and extend all the way to the back wall. I was not impressed.
