i have and use my usb port for mp3s, you want a short as possible flash drive sticking out from the dash.
i just bought 2 of these mini flash drives from newegg i bought mine for $6 but at $9 they are still a good price. free shipping too. it sticks out maybe 1/4'', holds 8gb and is a lot faster loading than the original one i had in there.

I understand, but not all ports are in the front of the radio, some are remote on a cable. I use the short ones in my DD, but have found it will only load the first 250 songs, so anything larger than a 2gb is overload.
