ls swap is RUNNING. a few quesions...

I started my 5.3 for the first time on Saturday 03-09-13. It sounds great. Started right up and sounds healthy. I drove it around my neighborhood and MAN-O-MAN the power and throttle response is awesome
Now i have a few questions. I did a little research but want to put this post up to double check.
I need to monitor my temperature. Is there a way to use my sensor off my old 350? will autometer #2277 allow me to use my 350 sensor on the pass side head port? OR will autometer #2259 allow me to use my stock gage?

Also, how much luck have any of you had hooking your electric fan relay up to your computer? I have a relay with an on/off sensor mounted to my radiator, but using my computer would be cool.

Things I still need to do:
VSS: thinkin about using the SEN-01-4160
steam line: I purchased the T fitting from JTR
OBDII port: I'll just wire it up how lt1swap suggests
check engine light

anything I'm missing? Thanks for all the help with getting my truck running, I did everything myself. I'm a 21 year old, never taken any automotive class, learned everything I know from trial and error. I couldn't have done it without this website.

I can't answer your question about temperature senders. I do know that many people install a stock sending unit into the rear of the right head. Most have drilled and tapped that location to fit the stock unit.

The fans are easy to hook up to the PCM. Not sure what year PCM you have, but most later models are already programmed for the electric fans. I can post a drawing of how to connect them if you want.

Good luck finishing up your swap.

Hmmm, that sender from autometer only says "short sweep gauges"...I suppose you'd have to know what range the gauge operates on, as "short sweep" doesn't really tell you much....

Also, how much luck have any of you had hooking your electric fan relay up to your computer? I have a relay with an on/off sensor mounted to my radiator, but using my computer would be cool.

Fan 1 on most harnesses is the cooling fan (fan 2 is the a/c fan if applicaple), use a relay and give use this input to control the input side of the relay, pull power from any good 12v source. Your computer should already be setup for it, just have the tuner check the on/off points if you run a different thermostat or spend lots of time idling/staging.

Things i still need to do:
Vss: Thinkin about using the sen-01-4160
That unit gives an electric pulse signal...but most of the stock speedo's are cable driven and require the much more expensive cable-x. I didn't see what trans you run, but the o/d trans all already use an electronic speedo output.

obdii port: I'll just wire it up how lt1swap suggests
check engine light

damn right lol
Sounds like you got most of it ready to go.

How I did my coolant sender http://carburetorssuck.com/index.php...ulletin&blog=8

Make sure to use rectifier diodes on your cooling fan relays, especially if ran off the pcm.

VSS - Can't help you since I run a SM465, it's tuned out and runs great.

OBD port's are typically wired the same.

Steam line - I ran mine from the cross over tube to the old heater line port on the passenger upper side of the radiator, it has been working great.

Re: ls swap is RUNNING. a few quesions...

@BR3W as for my VSS, I'm running a th400. I should've mentioned that haha. That VSS I mentioned above is supposed to let you use your cable driven speedo on a non-electronic trans. At least I think so. I got the idea from this link on lt1swap (little more than halfway down the page). since I'm using a non electronic trans I guess the pulses don't matter and that vss should work, right? Any suggestions on others?

Hmm, I read this differently. Sounds to me you got it backwards;

You have an cable output trans; which is designed to work with a cable driven speedometer. Unless you have an electronic speedometer stock (I didn't think you would?), the cable trans output would connect right to the back of the gauge cluster and drive the speedo correctly.

The part that you posted connects to the cable output and creates and digital 8000pulse signal that will run an electronic speedometer. This part would only be useful if you were trying to run an electonic speedo (are you?) or one of the dakota digital dashes. Its basically the oppossite of the cable-x.

Cable trans to cable speedo = direct hookup
Electronic trans to electonic speedo = direct hookup
Cable trans to electric speedo = The thing you posted
Electronic trans to cable speedo = Cable-X

Make sure you keep an eye on your temperature gauge when you hook up the fan to make sure it's starting and stopping when it should. Not that I'm speaking from experience or anything.

Doesn't the PCM just need to know if you are stopped at idle vs. moving hence the ability to use the Dakota Digital pulse generator? At least that is what I've read before. Bigger question for me is, will it allow the cruise control system to function correctly.

Seems like it really is just more of a reference point generator than anything as actual MPH is irrelevant.

They recently released a GPS addition that can get your speed and is supposedly accurate enough for cruise control. I saw it when I was pricing out a dash the other day. I think it can also pull the speed from the ODBC connector if you have one.

Speaking of Dakota Digital and not trying to derail the topic, does anybody give deals on their products? I've been looking but can't find anyone.

Well, after a bit of research, it looks like both EFIlive and HPT can tune in a 8k pulse generator such as the Dakota listed above.

The PCM should pick up vehicle speed from the VSS output in the trans assuming you run an electronic trans.
