timing?
I just finished building and installing a 350 +.060, vortec heads, comp cams 262 kit, performer rpm, and holley 600 vaccuum secondary. Set engine at 8 degrees BTDC to get it started for the first time, but how do I know what to set it at for best performance, or do I have to have a shop tune it for me

With a modified engine like that you will only have one option. Do it yourself just as any mechanic would do it. 8 degrees may be about right, but you will want to advance the timing up until it runs bad, then back it off. For example, I have a beefy 400sb that is set at 12 degrees. You really have to tune it by ear. The first time is the only time you will have to do it, because after that you will know where it runs good.
