looking good... i know what you're saying about trusting you with their vehicle. it does make a difference. sometimes the owner can be like a silent partner but i like the very active and involved owners myself and you guys seem to have the perfect working relationship.[/QUOTE]

Yeah, Troy is in charge of the body work. I'll do the rest. From my point of view everything looks good and I am looking forward to seeing it in person (Probably Monday evening, Troy). I am involved but just don't want to be "Old and in the Way" (dead head reference there). I sure don't have much to offer Troy except money and encouragement.

Heck, Troy, most people are glad to run out of gas.

Dave.

Re: Big Red Dog

Haha yea Dave my wife would love it... Lol! Ill be around about 4:30 or so an hopefully on the drivers side. If you want you can take the glass home with ya so I don't have to worry about breaking it. We will talk more when you come by. Still need a few items but they are last few things I'm going to work. If this weather would straighten up I could get some stuff done but 45 degrees isn't really comfortable...

Thanks man... I still got a long way to go though... It will be slow going once I get to the bodywork stage... I love spraying paint vs cutting out rust or making dust lol...

I know, I need to find somebody that likes that sanding crud that I can trust and then I can come in and make it look good! Plus the painting part takes a small percentage of time to do vs bodywork... Till I find that person I'll keep honing my skills lol!

Re: Big Red Dog

I had the opportunity to drop in on Troy Monday. See the work in person, and man what a sight. We talked for a couple of hours and I restocked the kitty a bit.

We discussed how to clean up the grill. Its too flimsy to sand blast. I suggested paint stripper. One could also use electrolysis. Lay down some 2 bys and drape black plastic over it to make a container and hook up a battery charger. Paint and rust gone in a day or so. Just a thought.

Re: Big Red Dog

Parts came in and states on the drivers side. Cut out most of the rust and started fitting the lower dog leg, extended floor panel, rocker and footwell patches. Well got the floor section fit and tacke in set the footwell patch in place before final fitment and here's where I started to notice a problem. So I fit the rocker and oh yea, PROBLEM! The Taiwan stamped extended floor panel is 3/8" short on the bottom where the rocker spot welds to it!!! So now I get to call them and let them know but I'm sure they will do nothing (lmc) so I have to add the difference that is missing by welding a strip on and making it look factory... Never had any issues before but this is a good one so if anybody orders one of these extended floor pans with the inner rocker measure the back side drop! Should be 4" not 3-5/8... Picks of the progress coming.

Re: Big Red Dog

Seems that even when someone says they have found a good supplier for tin, they have at least one that doesn't fit right and requires mods.

Based on the amount of hidden debris you found in the rockers. it may very well be termites. Or their alien cousins.

Humm, I wonder what color "The Big Red Dog" will be painted?

Re: Big Red Dog

I just wish there was more of these products manufactured in the US where quality control might check 1 in 10 pieces for specs where as in say Taiwan might be 1 in 50! I did manage to get the floor mostly done just need a toe board piece I will fab tomarrow and then extend the inner rocker. I have the piece cut just need to get rocker on and weld it in. Then cab corner, back of cab, doors and then...

Re: Big Red Dog

Well cab rust repair.... Done! 42 hrs later! I really wish cab corners were extended to under the first rib on the back of the cab! Good thing I've made some of those before. So I filled the holes on the trans hump and smoothed a little mud on the cab and also found another spot on the front cowl that had a hole so I repaired that too! Next up sand, sand, sand then we sling primer on cab!!!

Re: Big Red Dog

When you said that you would make some templates and cut patches for the hump, I had no idea how tight a fit they would be. They look factory fit, no better.

Sorry that I didn't get the PM before I came by. I would have brought them originally, but the procrastinator that I am, I didn't know what I wanted to do with the interior. I will not be leaving it pure stock but am not trying to make a Rolls Royce out if it either. For sure the Heater/vent controls will be after market A/C, the ash tray blocked off and probably the radio also. I'll get the interior panels to you next week.

Troy has done a great job. There is a floor, rocker panels and cab corners that don't look like the Swiss cheese he mentions above (plus other areas that contribute to the structure of these). He pointed out that it appears that the cab top has been painted before. He showed me red primer under white, under grey primer, under white. Didn't see metal damage, as in no impact damage though.

Re: Big Red Dog

Thanks Dave! These were just rough cut and fit perfect.. I was surprised. The shifter hole was the same size as a partially used grinding wheel and I used the trim that holds the seal for the slotted area for that piece. Trace inside the trim piece and cut on the outside of the line and they fit perfect. I'm going to get paint and clear tomarrow then maybe try to wrap up the bodywork on the cab and start on the doors! I'm still on schedule for my date I have in my head... Can't wait to start slinging some shine on this thing.
I think I'm the king of procrastination!!! I get in modes where I can't get off my but to do anything them when I do I'm like a dog looking for a place to.... Feel better! Lol

Lots of views on the build and want to thank everyone for checking it out and feel free to comment or ask questions.. I tell you what Dave, I hope you don't have another diesel that you will pull up in next... Even my neighbor asked if you'd got another truck. Haha I just want one! I'll see ya soon. Lol
