72 - 68 posi swap. Help ID rear-end

Hello, I am swapping the rear end from a 72 which is POSI based on the SPID and behavior when I spin 1 wheel. Need to determine what gear it has as well as if a straight swap is possible. For example do I need a new drive-shaft? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Crack it open and count the teeth easy way to find out the gear plus you can change the fluid which it more them likely will need anyway.
The ujoint will be different from the 68 to the 72 I had to swap the u joint cup (cant think of the name) off my 69s rear end to the 72s so I did not have to swap out the u joint.

Ok next question, thanx! Which pinion seal do I need to swap the yoke?

That SPID picture is really poor but I am not seeing an optional ratio so with a 350 and auto, 3.07 was the default ratio. Before I went to the trouble of swapping axles I would open it up and see what everything looks like. Posi. clutch packs are much easier on an axle stand than in the truck. Now why are you pulling the axle from such a nicely optioned truck?

Yes "yoke". Could not think of that word for nothing...lol

I used the one for the 72 when I swapped. The 72 rear end is also wider by around 1.5" or so.

That truck was a heap! Grabbed all the goodies from it like tilt, posi, misc other crap.

Motor was blown and it was a rust bucket.

Installing my ECE 4/6 kit and since it provides new U bolts and the bed will be off, now is the perfect time for the swap.

Trying to figure out what the part number is for the pinion seal for the posi so I can swap the yoke.

This thread has a lot of info:

Posi does not mean its a DANA rear-end right?
