Fuel pump 454?
Heya guys / n gals
Does anyone know if I can run a 40gph fuel pump on a 454 with a 800cfm, 1406 edelbrock carb on my 454? The motor has a mild cam (RV cam) and long tube headers but thats about it. I've been narrowing down small issues trying to get my monster on the road. So any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Fuel pump 454?
just be sure to run a pressure reg but 800cfm sounds a bit much for the rv cam

Re: Fuel pump 454?
1406 is a 600 cfm carb. 1412 is a 800 cfm and 1812 is the 800 cfm thunder series.

Re: Fuel pump 454?
The reason I ask is all the pumps I have looked up for the 454 are 120gph. and the one I have on my 350 in my 85 is 40gph. both are 5-6psi. Ithats the only difference I can find between them. but the 120gph seems a bit much.

Re: Fuel pump 454?
i personally couldnt get a factory replacement pump to run the engine right. it would always run out of fuel after a few seconds of wide open. so i got the summit 110gph with a regulator set for 5psi and i can hold it to the floor all day and it does fine. edelbrock 1411 (750cfm) and "rv" cam.

Re: Fuel pump 454?
Use a regulator no matter which pump you choose. Edelbrock carburetors are known to be sensitive to fuel pressure.

Re: Fuel pump 454?
IF all you did was fuel pump, it's something simple. Wire wiggled of the HEI? Were you under the dash? Pull a plug and see if there is any spark. For any reason did you mess with the starter wires?

Re: Fuel pump 454?
I did find that my big starter wire has been chewed on by a mouse.... Grrr.
I do have spark at the plugs. I did the plug trick and it arc's real nice and pretty.... I still have flooding issues. Im gonna try another Carb. 1411 edelbrock.
