Tailgate Chrome Band

Hey everyone, I'm looking for a new tailgate band for my 87. Does anyone know where to get one? Is there a website that I just haven't came across or do I just need to find a used one? Mine is dented so I'm looking for a replacement. Thanks for your time.

Re: Tailgate Chrome Band

Are you talking about the trim piece that goes under the tailgate panel. You might give LMC a ring. I know they list them for 73-80 but not sure about the 87.

Re: Tailgate Chrome Band

Do you mean a small piece of trim or the big one that covers half the tailgate?

Re: Tailgate Chrome Band

LMC only sells the Blazer bands. eBay has them frequently, craigslist, and your local pick-a-part.

Re: Tailgate Chrome Band

They're like 4 million dollars for a new one. I'd try and find one from a junkyard or something.

Re: Tailgate Chrome Band

X2...every now and then you'll find one for 3 million dollars. As long as they're not too badly dented they're easily cleaned up. Craigslist and pick your part. I'd also try the classifieds on these forums.

View their online catalogue ....page 61(actual book page) or page 69 (PDF form).
Kinda pricy at $649.00 (N.O.S part)

Re: Tailgate Chrome Band

I've been looking for one as well.

are the emblems glued on or riveted?

I found someone with a 87 gmc with the same panel except it has the gmc logo on the left side.

Re: Tailgate Chrome Band

If you can find one in decent shape, you can make it look like chrome with a little elbow grease and some high grade polish, such as that found at big rig chrome shops. Here is mine.

Also want to add that the GMC bands had left hand mounted emblems, and Chevrolet bands had right hand mounted emblems.

Re: Tailgate Chrome Band

The band is actually a two piece band, where the outer piece is pinched over the inner piece. You can carefully separate the two pieces, tap out the dings, and re-pinch the two pieces together. Not for the faint of heart tho. I am going to have to get a couple small ones out of my band as well. I have been putting it off, but they are driving me nuts!

Re: Tailgate Chrome Band

I guess that all depends on how bad the bend is. If it is bad, it will be hard to get the crease out without breaking it.

Patience and time always helps. Also the way I look at things is if I try to fix it and it doesn't turn out right I either get to retry or am in no worse shape than I was before.
