Re: Automatic vs. Manual..whats your favorite?
I've got a sm465 manual in my truck and love it. Actually this year my wife told me shed like to drive it again so now I'm going to redo the brakes so it stops better. She drove it lsst year without a problem. Kinda funny at first it "was just a truck" and now its our truck and means something. Last year for our anniversary she got me a air horn from horn blasters.

Re: Automatic vs. Manual..whats your favorite?
Autos just take all the fun and control out of it. Driving is an experience to be enjoyed no matter the occasion. All of mine are daily drivers (depending on the day and what I need to do). Manuals for me, 3 speed on the floor in the 70, 6 speed NV5600 in the 68, and 6 Speed T56 in my 63 Chevy II. The only auto I currently own is my beater 88 K2500 and that will be sold shortly. I'll finally be back to only classics and only manuals.

Re: Automatic vs. Manual..whats your favorite?
I love manuals. My 67 had a 3pd for many years, but I wanted an OD. NV 4500s were really $ and I didn't know what else would work that was affordable (This was in 2001) so I bought a rebuilt 700R ($700) and the BTO TVmadeEZ and wiring kit (I think around $200?) a junkyard auto cross member (20?) and I found a really nice local guy that normally does semi truck driveshafts shorten and balance my driveshaft for $30 and I had OD for under a grand. At the time, most yards were asking $1800 to 2K+ for a used NV4500.
My winter beaters were 5spd 1986 Toyota trucks (ended up owning 3 of them, all coincidentally the same year). My 99 S10 was a 5 spd. I LOVED that truck. Loved it. But I had to let it go (look at my sig!) to make room for the 65 Mustang. So now I have no manuals. Not happy. Z71... auto. C10... now an auto. Mustang... auto. Thought about swapping it... but it runs and drives too damn well, I don't drive it enough to justify it. Wifes AWESOME 2011 Mustang... auto... I tried like hell to teach her on my s10, but after about so many hard pops I was afraid she was going to snap my timing chain I gave up I have one glimmer of hope left. I'm restoring a 67 Firebird with a real Pontiac 400. IT IS GOING TO GET A TREMEC. I don't care if it's 3 grand (which it might be ) I will have at least one bad ass car with a manual!!! I've already got a pedal set, the Zbar stuff, and a Pontiac manual bellhousing. Bad news is the car probably won't even be close to ready for another 4 or 5 years.

Re: Automatic vs. Manual..whats your favorite?
I like them both for different reasons. I grew up in the mountains and manual trucks were all there was. Then off to college and I got great grandmas 76 Buick skylark. Th350. Awesome car. I've had so many cars over the years I can't count em all but I have to say when it comes to maintenance the manual wins. And if it's performance then mashing gears is more of a real driving experience. Rock crawling has changed in big ways because of auto. My current DDs are a 98 and 2000 jeep Cherokees one stick one manual. Long trips auto but hitting the back roads with the family the stick wins.
All in all I'm going to say auto just because I'm a fat lazy American. At the speeds we travel on the freeway auto just makes things more comfortable. Plus the auto in the jeep has proven itself bulletproof these past 13 years. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Automatic vs. Manual..whats your favorite?
I could go either way but since I drive a 13 speed speed transmission 5 days out of the week, it's kind of nice being able to take it easy with an auto when I'm not working or cruising with the wife beside me.

Re: Automatic vs. Manual..whats your favorite?
I have had a lot of manuals......but for cruising around I cant seem to get anything better than a built 700r4 with auto lockup. Had this one built to handle 600hp.....which this truck will never see. Original owner had a cheesy dead TH350. Ran about 60mph top speed and whined all the way.
Knew it was time to change it when a Smart car passed me on the hwy and the 90yr old lady was pointing and laughing. |

Re: Automatic vs. Manual..whats your favorite?
I learned how to use a clutch on a John Dear tractor. Fast forward quite a few years and I have driven fork lifts to sport cars with a manual trans. Now that I getting older and have problems with my hip I prefer driving a auto. All of the vehicle I own are autos. But if I were to get something to drive for fun, I would get something I could slam gears.

Re: Automatic vs. Manual..whats your favorite?
I have to agree with this. When I was younger I hated automatics, now I wouldnt buy a truck without one. The ONLY time i would get a stick was in a sports car, but even then I would prob get paddle shifters instead.

Re: Automatic vs. Manual..whats your favorite?
I've been known to stomp the floor with my left foot and reach in front of the seat for the shifter when coming to a stop in an automatic
