Ripped off
This past Saturday preping for a Vortec swap I removed the front clip and bed on my 1970 C10. While stored on a trailer in front of my friends shop, someone made off with the front clip - between midnight and 7:30 am. 7 1/2 damn hours! Everyone has stories like this, but this one really took the steam out of this project. Oh yea and my wife is thrilled. Keep an eye of your stuff, this doesn't happen up here in Montana very often.
Thanks for the opportunity to vent. |

MAN THAT BITES!!
This kind of stuff used to not happen where I'm at either. Parked and locked my mothers car two spaces from the front door of a business the other day. Ten feet from a major street full of traffic. When I came out there was a person sitting in the passenger seat. When the punk saw I was headed straight for him he was gone like beans out the bottom of a burrito! I found out this forty year old fart can't run anymore. HE IS VERY LUCKY!!! Sometimes here you gotta watch them scrap guys around industrial areas especially. They'll load stuff up quick. I feel for you, |

that pretty much sucks but it goes to show that if you make it easy for them they'll take advantage of the chance

Thanks
Unfortunately the clip they made off with was the best part of the truck, all factory and straight as a pin.
A local club member has a clip off a '72 he is willing to part with for $200 less the 4 core radiator. Its not as straight as mine but all the pieces are intact. Thanks for the sympathy. |

swdobbs, Sorry some jerk got ya, I lost a complete beautiful Glass front end off of my 55 hard top a few years ago. I even had a very good idea who took it, But none of my neighbors seen or heard anything. And I did some Tee-Pee creeping around the guys house that I suspected, No luck. Sometimes, nosy neighbors are a good thing. ( another story !) Last edited by RON WOODGEARD; 11-18-2003 at 06:34 PM. |

thanks again
If there is a good side to this... Ravon street rods here in town is giving me a deal on painting the replacement clip.
Silent Night chassis has been busting ass and since Monday the 1987 front crossmember is installed (pb/ps), the '93 TBI 350 and the TH400 short shaft is in. The painless TBI wiring is next week along with the '97 Tahoe tank. He has to spend a day or so on a '57 chassis, or I bet he'd be done by Thursday. Anybody have a brand of radiator they can recommend for a guy on a budget. Its the last piece to replace. Thanks again for letting me vent, I think I've got my second wind. If my clip turns up on some punks truck after this is all said and done it will be ugly, because in this small town word has spread and everyone has eyes peeled. swdobbs... |

I can feel for ya, about 7 years ago I had a 70 1/2 that had all done but paint. New engine, trans, suspension, interior ect. I went to my mother in laws in California who was honestly on her death bed. When my wife and I came out after spending the night the only thing where my truck was parked was a pile of broken glass from the vent window. That sucked as I was stuck 130 miles from my house with no truck. And my truck was never recovered.

Why can people just leave things alone that don't belong to them. WOW that really hurts, not just the wallet either. SORRY for the bad news.

Ouch!! that hurts, thieving b*astards. A friend of mine had her car stolen from outside her house a few years ago, got a call a couple of days later from the Police to say it had been found at the side of a country road, partially stripped (no doors, wheels, dash, engine) she went to look at it, arranged for a friend with a recovery truck to go back with some scrap wheels the next day and bring it home, when he got there somebody had nicked what was left and the whole thing had gone again! Only person I know to have the same car stolen twice in less than a week! There is a real problem with the scrap scavenging, thiveing pikey low-lives in the UK, the editor of one of our big classic car magazines recently had his early 70's Mercedes parts car stolen by a scrap thief from outside their workshop in broad daylight. Nobody thought to question him.

Update
Bad news, I just got a call from a friend - mechanic/rodder/truck enthusiast who HAD a replacement clip he offered to sell me...HAD is the key word...his almost done lifted factory big block '72 blazer was stolen prior to 6:00 a.m from inside his shop...his stock blazer clip was going to be sold to me and a real clean custom (prerunner) front end put in its place...now he's missing his whole truck. According to the local law, this makes 5 ('67-'72's) in the past month, not including my clip - news to me.
Its ugly up here, the perp better hope the law catches him before the local boys - even the ford boys are taking this personal. Scott... |

Billings Montana, (aka theft central)
I've only been here since '96, and I used to leave my keys in my rigs overnight...now it looks like I'll have to chain my sh!t down to keep it. Pretty sad transistion in only 7 years. 2 of the local law enforcement and most everyone else keeps pointing to one local scum bag. One of the officers even gave me his desciption, shop and home addresses. The suspect turns out several of these trucks every year all finished, with questionable out of state (washed) titles. My mom is from Montana, have some family up there. They used to be in polson, but I have no idea where they are now. Bought my car from reann or what ever it is named, just out side of polson. He also had a 69 truck with a 6 and 3 on the tree. I wanna go up there sometime to get it and just have a truck to paly around in, It wouldnt be worth much as its been sitting for years in a field with weeds higher then it.
Sorry about your stuff. I hope all turns out well.
