National Forest or Air Force C10?
Hello,
I'm trying to determine if my 70 C10 was a US National Forest or Air Force truck? I'm trying to decode the SPID to determine the paint colors and I'm also trying to find out the orginial lettering on the doors? I'd like to find out what the letterings on the doors where so I can place a decal and scuff if out to look old? The person who previously owned the truck may have painted the top gray as I'm thinking the top may have been white? I do know that the drivers side door is not the original door? It was white then repainted to try to match the rest of the truck. Thank you. |

SSTim can tell you for sure, but my thoughts are if that's original light teal paint, I'd think forest service, or just civilian. Why would the military go with one that color back then?

It would be pretty interesting if it was either one

Re: National Forest or Air Force C10?
Most Air Force trucks were painted blue, I googled old air force trucks and came up with a blue 1951 Ford, pretty cool original patina/letters even though it's a Ford.
http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/92...air-force.html I had a 56 Chevy Army truck and it had a glove box ID plate on it like this Ford.

Thanks for the feedback! Took me a while to figure out what I was going do with the wheel? They are 17" Corvette Rallys from Wheel Vintiques. Here are more recent pic with different caps.

Re: National Forest or Air Force C10?
That's special paint and looks like the forest service light green to me. The COPO options, especially GSA insp. sheet lsp support that. The military trucks had far more special optional equipment than yours

Do you have any pictures that clearly show the original color like the cab behind the seat or inner roof? Also are there any stickers or plates?

Re: National Forest or Air Force C10?
That color varies from the door to the rest of the body, but all seems original. The Forest Service used a slightly richer/darker green than Park Service, right? Monitors vary, too. I know they're both under the Dept of Int,but my memory recalls a paler green (closer to door) from trucks seen at Cape Hatteras and other National Seashores in the '70s compared to trucks seen in the Western States where BLM is big. I dunno, maybe I'm wrong. This color almost looks like GM Light Green at first, but not quite.

Re: National Forest or Air Force C10?
The truck was lowered approx 3.5" in the front and 4" in the rear. I agree with most comments that the truck may have belonged to the National Forest. I'll keep doing a bit more research to see if I discover something new. Does anyone have a catalog or reference guideline with a description of what each on of the items are on the SPID?

Re: National Forest or Air Force C10?
That SPID is pretty clear as it sits (OK, granted for some of us). Is there something specific you don't understand or is it all greek to you?
