Best way to do a 5/6 drop?

hey guys i was wondering whats the best way to do a 5/6 drop?

what brand is the best?

does buying all the same brand for the parts makes a difference?

will the wheels rub if I would put 15x10 all around?

are there cons on doing a 5/6 drop?

pictures will be nice

The easy way is a good spindle spring combo with a flip kit, shock extenders, and good shocks. My preference is KYB.

The thing I have never been a fan of flip kits because of the bracket they give you. Personally I prefer new perches, u-bolts, and 1/4 plate for the bottom bracket. Then I shorten my drive shaft 1/2-3/4 of an inch, but most Chevy trucks I have been under seem to be able slide the carrier bearing back enough. That is if you have a long bed.

Buy the same brand helps for a bit of a discount, but some people like different parts of different kits.

15x10's get kind of wide for the front, but you won't know till you get there. Or if you have the back spacing to see how someone else has done it.

The only cons is you now have to drive around like a car, and loading the truck up heavy now requires air bags.

Going that low, a C-notch kit is also recommended so your rear-end isn't constantly bottoming out on your frame.

you shouldn't have to cut the drive shaft.

2.5-3" spindles & dropped springs (cut 1-coil if on a budget; purchase drop springs if within budget).

For the rear do a Bell Tech or Western Chassis flip kit & shock extenders. I would recommend doing c-notches to ensure there's no bottoming out on the frame rail.

Good quality shocks front/rear & make sure you have a sway bar up front w/some good bushings.

does it make a difference if i cut the oem springs than buying aftermarket lowering springs?


whats better 2.5 springs/2.5 spindles OR 2" springs/3" spindles for the front?

There is a difference if the aftermarket spring has a higher spring rate. Sometimes cutting a coil leaves the coil too short for the given height (& subsequent amount of travel). This is where a shorter spring w/more rate is better.

I typically try cutting a coil 1st. If I don't like the ride quality, I look for aftermarket springs w/higher rate.

3" spindles run into more back-spacing problems on wheels. It depends mainly on that for me. 2.5" units seem to have fewer issues.

The 'how low can I go w/o a notch' question is subjective @ best. Ask 6 guys & you'll get 5 different answers. If it's used as a truck & hauls heavy-ish items in the bed, plan for a notch & eliminate worries. If it's only a part-time, looks-only vehicle, follow the same philosophy as the front coil thing.... try it 1st w/o the notch.

rear=flip....front= dropped spindles, and cut a coil off the front springs....you can do the flip without a notch, just be sure to remove the bumpstops in the rear...and dont haul anything...lol. ......and cutting stock coils is free!! you wont notice..

so i can do a 5/6 drop without a notch right? just with the flip kit? i just want to make sure before i buy anything.im going to have to remove the hitch then.do you have any good quality brand that you recommend?

no, nothin really that I can think of....I ran a set of c10 front shocks on the rear for awhile till I switched to a four link, and now I'm runnin nitro drop shocks.

I did the 12 dollar flip kit to mine. The saddles came from Summit. When I did it I removed the factory snubbers. No notch. I like it fine. I have a dually for pulling real heavy stuff.

I run a 3" djm spindle and 1 coil cut on front. I run a Belltech flip kit in the rear. No notch, but if I put shackles on or hauled stuff often I would do a notch. So far I haven't had any issues on bottoming out, though.

I heard bad things bout their flip kits but the spindles were alright. Only issue is I had to do quite a bit of grinding on the spindles to get them to fit properly.

i am running the djm flip kit and imo its a great kit for the price. I had 0 issues with the install. personally i am running a set of drop springs up front along with a flip kit and 2'' helper springs out back. I plan to remove the helper springs and install a set of 2.5 spindles up front with the hopes of getting my ride quality back a little. Right now its like a wagon.. haha

Most flip brackets do it for you by moving the rear axle back a bit.

On my truck I could get away with out shortening, but my friends would need it.
