Chevy vs. Ford Bolt Patterns
Everyone seems to install the venerable Ford 9 inch rear end. What do people do witht the bolt patterns, or are they the same as Chevy bolt patterns.
Are more recent (90's) Ford 5 bolt hubs the same pattern as GM?

I'M NOT TOO SURE ABOUT THE NEW ONES, BUT I'VE GOT A FORD 9" OUT OF A 76 STINKEN LINCOLN MARK IV THAT HAS REAR DISCS. A FREIND OF MINE , THAT OWNS A DRIVELINE SHOP IS PUTTING A POSSI UNIT IN IT, ALONG WITH ALL NEW BEARINGS, SEALS, & GASKETS IN TRADE FOR SOME CHEVY STUFF. I PICKED THIS REAREND BECAUSE I ALWAYS WANTED REAR DISCS & THIS REAR END COMES WITH 5 ON 5 BOLT PATTERN. (THE SAME AS OUR TRUCKS) JOHN

most people that use a narrowed nine inch are using custom axles and you can get any bolt pattern you want drilled in the axle when they make em.

Ford is 5 on 4 and 1/2, or 5 on 5......
Chevy is 5 on 4 and 3/4. |

Lincoln Rear End
My local wrecker just got a '91 Town Car. I've been eyeing it for the rear axel and the rear disc brakes.
Any advice about using it?

NOT ALL LINCOLNS & OTHER BIG FORDS CAME WITH A 5 ON 5 BOLT PATTERN. (& NOT ALL CAME WITH 9" REARS EITHER) TAKE A TAPE MEASURE OR SCALE WITH YOU, & MEASURE IT BEFORE YOU GO TO ALL THE TROUBLE TO PULL & CART THAT HEAVY SUCKER HOME. JOHN

Make sure you don't get stuck with an 8 inch when you really want a 9 inch. If you can put a ratchet and socket on the lower two bolts that hold the center section in, it's an 8 inch.
Nine inchers are built bigger there, and the bottom 2 bolts can only be removed with a wrench.
