1971 2wd conversion
Hey guys, I am new to the site and I could use a little help. I have a 71 K5 that has been converted to a 2wd. We have lowered the front using 3" drop spindles and a 5 inch flip kit to lower the rear around 5". The current tire wheel combo is 15 x 8 rally wheels 275/50/15 on the front and 295/50/15 on the rear with a 15 x 10 wheel. I am having some issues with rubbing on the rear and could use some suggestions.....
Can I get away with a smaller rear tire on the 10" rear wheel or should I move forward with a new wheel/tire combo? thanks |

I have a pic of a 275/60 0n a 10 on my LBT thread. Where's the rub? Out or in? Where you at in KCMO? Turns out there's a lot of us. Probably just a tad less BS on the rears.

Its at the shop now, and he called me saying the tires were rubbing on the outside. Im trying to decide if I can keep those wheels with maybe a 245 tire not sure if that will be enough difference

Backspace. Off the inside of the rim to the mount surface. A 245 will barely fit and look kinda silly on a 10. Unless the blazer rear is a bit wider, this is a proven combo unless you got some deeeeeeep barrel 10's. You need a hair more backspace, or lift the truck a tad or ach, I see you're a leafer. Rear is probably a tad wider than a coil truck... If its just barely, you could roll your inners back a bit, or get some stock 8's and run a 275/60. Are you still 6-lug? Hmmm. A 275 will suck it in in and stand up more off the rim edge. might save your bacon, but if it's bad, new wheel time.

It has been converted to a 5 lug....so I could just buy 2 more 15x 8 rally's for the rear and get new tires all the way around. That would be the cheapest fix because I don't think buying new tires for rear is going to be enough. Or this would be a good excuse to buy a new set of wheels. If I went to an 18" x 8 wheel with a 255 tire that would also probably work.

10 would still be fine, just less backspace. Couple of companies do that. About 300 all in.

Wheel vintiques, among others. Wheelsmith, I think Stockton wheel is closed. Might have your current ones modded. Google 15x10 truck rally and go from there. Good luck! Do you do the cruise on the square?

OK men I found two options.
1) I can go with 15x 8 rally's all around and get a taller tire which should help my highway speeds 2) I found a 15 x 10 rally with the correct back spacing which will fit inside my fender well. Is it worth sacrificing the look of the 10" wheel to get a taller tire on the 8" rim...for the sake of the ride, and lower rpm's on the highway?? what tire/wheel combo would be optimal?? |

I'm a fan of the deep barrel. That being said, if clearances prohibit that, I'd go to Liberty Bend and get 2 15x8's with 275's. cheapest way out. The last pages of the yeller thread show a 71 with 8" rallies with 255&275's. Have a look!
