hood latch question

Hi! I've installed my hood latch on my 59 Apache, I can push the hood down past the safety catch(the first hook), but a little reluctant to push down on it in fear I may not get it back open. How does the nub/catch on the right lower part of the latch work? If I pull the lever as to open the hood,the safety catch pulls in, then I can squeeze the right lower part back in, but I don't see how the hood can down all the way cause of the right lower part of the latch! It's a new latch.

I just went and looked at mine. Looks the same as yours only not so shiny....not sure how it works but mine is the same.

Thank you~ that gave me confidence to shut the hood like one would~ it closed tightly and opened very well! I'm happy! The original hood latch~ I closed the hood and I didn't think I'd ever get the hood opened~ luckily it didn't have a grill at the time and I could work from below to get it open.

the hook on top is your safety latch
the part on the bottom gets pushed down
which pops the latch out
yours is installed correctly

Thanks Ogre! It's is nice to have a working hood latch! There's just that incredible fear of when closing the hood for the first time~ Will it open again? yikes! KInd of like the doors on the cab~ you shut it, then it feels just for a nano-second like it's not going to open, but then it does and a sigh of relief is felt!

Denee007, I know that its only a latch but in the picture it almost looks like a piece of art. Its true that its the simple things that make you happy, especially when they work the way they are supposed too. One more part of the puzzle in place. A Yahoo to you.

Yes Clarance J, yes, it is the simple things is true! When things go as they're supposed to~ rare! But there is no manual for what we do, there is a go by my seat kind of plan I'd say, and it all comes together in the end~ one day we're just left driving it around~ thinking, "what next?" All the challenges are finished and recorded, but the actual "fun" is a build thread seeing a project come to life and friends sharing the experience! Oh gosh, I'm going to cry!

Sometimes I feel like crying too when I look at the "total" cell on my excell spreadsheet.

I really never have any intentions to add up the things I've bought in my truck folder where I keep all my receipts! And even more depressing, the fateful day that we will sell it? I can see it now, listing what we have in our trucks, only to give it away! I say I will never sell my projects, but some day~ Or what's worse to hear come out of a buyers mouth, "what's the least you'll take?" I have the most difficult time getting someone to come down on a price, the words just won't come out of my mouth!

Yuppers, it said "save the receipts in a folder" I don't remember the "add it up" part. That would make many of us sit down and cry. It sure helps later when you are asking yourself what was that part number for that part and where did I buy it though.

You make a lot of us feel like slackers for not making much truck progress while we seem to see constant progress on yours.

But most everyone here does extraordinary work, plus I didn't have to paint my truck and do a whole bunch of metal repair, and I didn't remove the body parts either, or complete frame resto, so I had a heck of a jump start, plus I'm home most all of the time, so really, I should have been finished long ago besides if when finished, life will be dull!

I remember when you bought this truck, and you've made a great deal of progress, but I've heard any number of times on this forum that these trucks are never entirely "done"

I had a folder on my last truck but never did add it up, and gave the folder to the buyer. I don't think I wanted to know, LOL. When I bought this truck I started an Excel spread sheet and enter every penny I spend along with where purchased, quantity, p/n sometimes, and shipping cost. I do it even for 4-5 dollar hardware store purchases so my total is very accurate (and sometimes depressing). It definitely exceeds what I could sell my truck for, but who's counting anyway.

Warning: Keeping a spread sheet like this might not be a good idea if your wife uses your computer, LOL.

swmbo doesn't need to know what i do with her money
i have a detailed spreadsheet with manufacturer and part numbers, no cost column
i have a rough idea of how much i have in truk, which does not include all those $5 trips to hd or parts stores
