Re: In-cab video of my '65 C-30 driving
Glad you guys liked it. The camera is an old Canon A570IS on a mount made out of some scrap aluminum and part of a 1x6. (Probably looks pretty odd to those riding behind me, ha.) I'd like to get one of the GoPro cameras myself, but as of right now can't justify the cost.

Re: In-cab video of my '65 C-30 driving
Thanks for the ride it been so long since I have been able to drive mine that I forgot about all those lovely features, lots of play in the steering wheel, and that growl of the transmission and rear end.

Re: In-cab video of my '65 C-30 driving
A 4 speed tranny and you start off in 2nd? That's what I do with my '66 C30. At what speed do you find yourself shifting into 4th? I'm between 30 & 35.

Re: In-cab video of my '65 C-30 driving
Again, glad everyone enjoyed watching it. Steering is actually OK, a bit of play in the front end, but not bad; box is good. It has less caster than the C-10's I have (or something) so it's more input sensitive, though. That, some new-old tires (worn in on another truck), and some probable subconscious thing about the camera leads to what you see. At any rate, I stopped doing it so all is well.
![]() In fact, I ran 60-65MPH or so today on the highway and it did fantastic. ![]() I'm shifting @ 2,200-2,800RPM most of the time when I pull fourth, about 30-40MPH with the 4.10's and a tall tire. First is not much of a road gear and I just shift 2-3-4 95% of the time like most do. But, man is it nice with a trailer. Even with the 6,000lb trailer behind it I could start out without touching the throttle. Nice motorhome, btw, Mike! Nice catch noticing the 4th gear low speed pull, Bret. And that's with a greasy old 283. I'm rebuilding a 292 right now for it, this thing should really pull then! |
