1966 GMC 4000 4x4 conversion...will It work?
Hey all,
Just picked up a 1966 GMC 4000 cab and chassis with a 292/4speed and two speed rear. Is it possible to remove many of the leaves from the leaf packs and put a set of 3/4 ton axles underneath? The truck has leaf springs front and rear. I understand the frame will be oversized but the lift will be built in and the frame will be overkill for towing. Give me your thoughts and ideas please! Is this too easy to be true?! Posted via Mobile Device |

If your going to go that far why not build a Bagged suspension for it and have some comfort other than leaf springs.

I believe aerotruk63 is referring to the air bags that are commonly used in lowered trucks, as well as heavy trucks, as a way to soften the ride. You can still use the K20 differentials, but replace the leaf springs with air bags and links.
To answer your original question, yes you can put a set of K20 differentials under that GMC 4000. The spring pads are likely going to be a different spacing, but that is easy enought to take care of.
