Square body chevy trailer

I have a square body trailer I bought at 13 years old for $100 at a flea market. I pretty much got what I paid for. Plywood covering the many large holes in the floor (most were big enough to stick my fist through or bigger), tires nearly bald, no jack, at least 4 or 5 different coats of paint that are all different colors, and about half of those paint jobs showing through. I rewired it with a kit and added some lights to it. I also got a good jack for christmas a couple months later. I used it about 2 or 3 times in 2 years and then I parked it at my grandfather's full of old junk.

I am getting it this friday, but if something comes up it may have to wait until next friday. Hopefully not. It is currently white with some red showing through. I have a replacement bed i bought for $120 plus $20 for removal and delivery. I also bought a headache rack from him for $40 (pictured). I may buy something else when I go back to his place tomorrow. It is FULL of brick nose ford trucks and square body chevys. Some are parts, some are whole only. I definately wanna buy a different headache rack I saw out there. I will try to keep you guys posted.

I will post pics when I get the trailer itself back here. To tide everybody over, here is a pic of the new to me bed that will replace the old rusted out one. Oh yeah, and I got that bedliner for free on craigslist. The toolbox cme with another trailer I bought, but it won't be staying. I am putting another one on it that is simialer, I just put this one on there to see how it would look. As you can see, the driver side has a boo boo.

Re: Square body chevy trailer

So what is the plan for the trailer? Work? Play? I think it would be cool pulled behind a bagged C10 along with the trailer bagged as well....

Re: Square body chevy trailer

Just about anything. I usually buy and resell these trailers, but this one is staying. It will be used to haul an occasional round bale of hay, trash, junk I buy that is too nasty to put in the pickup itself, and whatever the job is that requires a trailer. I like these pickup bed trailers because they give you the extra capacity of another truck but without paying for 2 insurances, gas, drivetrain parts, or anything else like that. The parts for these are cheap around here to. The junk yards are packed with them.

Good news! I got some license plates today! This trailer was never registered, so I'm glad I can now pull it home legally. 4 hour drive so lots of cops to pass. As long as I can get some tires for it today, I am bringing her home tomorrow! Doin' the dance.

Hittin' the road!

I know it is late tonight, but I just have to. I am too excited. I got some tires at a tire shop I got used for 30 bucks a piece. I am having them installed tommorow. I have to strap down all the junk in the bed (2 55 gal. barrels, a wood pallet, a lawn mower trailer, and some other crap.), add the new license plate, hope to the lord that those lights still work as good as they did 6 months ago, pray that coupler and safety chains hold together, and hope nothing on the trailer takes a dump on the 140 mile trip back to Lubbock. This should be interesting. Will update and give you guys some pictures if you want.

Re: Square body chevy trailer

I made the 250 mile trip home! It was a nail biter and we nearly took out a dairy queen drive through. It was an interesting drive and nothing was damaged to my knowledge. The new to me tires made it, all I need now is a spare. I got back too late and couldn't get a good picture. Will try to post tomorrow.

Re: Square body chevy trailer

One time my buddy and I went to go pick up a trailer and it was like a 25 footer or something big. We pulled up with his crew cab dually to get the enclosed trailer from a guy. The guy said it's around back. We pull up and hook up to it and as my buddy is swinging around catches the front of a Lays potatoe truck. I told my buddy you hit the Lays truck he said, "I didn't fell a thing." I never forget his look. Everything turned out ok but man it was a journey.....

Re: Square body chevy trailer

That sounds like an interesting trip. How bad did it damage the dually or trailer?

Re: Square body chevy trailer

Funny but just put a few scratches on the Lays truck and ripped the trim over the wheels off. But nothing really major. I think with the trailer and truck it was like over
50 foot long. It wasn't even a goose neck trailer though. Been nice been easier to haul around...

Re: Square body chevy trailer

I was victorious! I finished it in 4 hours yesterday with my brother. I didn't have to remove the wheels. I did have a tough time getting off the old mounting bolts. I was using an impact wrench for the first one. Came out in about 30 seconds. I moved to the front to remove the second bolt. I had to use a flexible adapter to make the deep drive socket fit. I pulled the trigger and the pin that held the flex head together shot out at warp speed. I still haven't found it. The rest I had to get out by hand with a ratchet, a HUGE crescent wrench where it would fit, and a wrench set. After removing the old bed and getting on the new one, I set the old one on top and strapped it in. Then I put in a bunch of other stuff and went to the scrap yard. I left with $49 and 980 pounds lighter. It was a good ride. I will try to post pics.

Re: Square body chevy trailer

Pretty neat. Lots of stuff in the bed of that old bed. Hate to say it but the bedsides almost look to be in better shape than the ones on my bed..........

Re: Square body chevy trailer

Heh, thanks I guess. You know..... that is worthless without a pic! I appreciate it man. I'm
I'm embarrassed to say that the 4 1/2 hour, 250 mile trip had been noisy. I got home, and only 5 bolts were holding it on and only 3 had a nut on them!! There should be 8! That explains all the rattling for so long!

Re: Square body chevy trailer

Yes it was a bit scary. When I hauled the old white bed, it was top heavy needless to say. I went on a really steep gradual curve on the lubbock loop and hit a bump doing 55. I have never seen a trailer sway or rock so badly. It got about 6 feet into the other lane. I have never seen traffic part like the Red Sea so suddenly. I seriously thought the trailer would flip over. It was scary. I went over several other turns that were similar on the way home and it went smoothly. I am about to get a new coupling in it. I love the trailer. Too bad I ruined the camper shell. I parked it at home the night I got it. It got rained on and kept out the water. It had a ratchet strap holding it in. When it rained, the old dry strap got wet and expanded from the moisture and got a little loose. I go out the next morning and was gonna park it out, and busted it in 2. Man I was mad. in the pasture. I pulled out about 20 feet and the strap cane loose, the camper flipped out

Re: Square body chevy trailer

Spare tire carrier on the tongue. Rewire the trailer so the back up lights work, Roll pan. Paint to match your truck. Matching wheels/tires to the truck, side marker lights front and rear, 8ft led strip lights under the rail to illuminate the inside of the bed wired to the marker lights with a cut off switch.
