lowered 3.5" got 5.5"
Hello Guys,
I just had the truck aligned. When I got to the shop the alignment guy was "wow you dropped it alot in the front" I thought it looked low so I got the tape measure out and measured from the center of the spindle to the bottom of the fender it was just under 14" I looked up the spec and asked around and stock is 19 to 19-1/2"'s thats 5.5" in the front. 2"'s more than I wanted. so this is what I did to the front end. Installed 73-87 upper and lower a-arms and all steering linkage 2-1/2" Mcguaghy's drop spindles 1" drop Mcguaghy's 73-87 springs I think the pockets for the 73-87 lower a-arms are set lower and with the 1" drop spring and when set side by side the original '70 spring is 1" shorter. it dropped it 2" more than I planned Does this make sense to anyone? Thanks Scott

Re: lowered 3.5" got 5.5"
Since you didn't measure it before you did the install you really don't know what it was originally. However aftermarket springs are commonly off from advertised specs. Since you changed the arms too that may be to blame. Looks good, I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: lowered 3.5" got 5.5"
I can't help you on the lowering questions but I'm curious about your before and after alignment specs. Can you snag a pic of one of your lower control arm/tie rods? Its for my research. Thanks in advance!

Looks like you have a 3" drop spring with your spindles,...

Re: lowered 3.5" got 5.5"
ive read stock is 32" from the ground to the bottom of the fender centered on the wheel and 34" in the rear with 29" tires, and when i check the stock ones i have thats what it measures if the springs are still good, now with the heavy duty rears its a little higher

Re: lowered 3.5" got 5.5"
I agree with lowlife99 that's more than a 1" spring. I think it looks fantastic. Any higher in the front and you would need to raise up the back end. Most of the time a 1" lowering spring doesn't even drop the truck because you are replacing 40 yr old sagged coils. That 3" spring prob gave u 2" actual drop plus the spindles. Either way it looks better than a 3.5 drop.

Re: lowered 3.5" got 5.5"
Thanks roger for the measurement. Lowlife how did you get then3" number? I have a 5.5 in the rear. With the 245/60-15 in front on 8" wheels and 275/60-15 on 10's gives me over 2"s difference that is the reason for wanting to raise an 1"

It's not too often we do something wrong, and it turns out soooooo right, but you nailed it! Relish in your mistake, that's a fine looking truck.

Re: lowered 3.5" got 5.5"
Hey guys so the more I look over it I figured I would try and install the stock spring. Guess what ? Even with the stock spring I got about 3 3/4" drop from 2-1/2" spindles and 78' heavy half a arms with with stock 70 springs. I think it looks better. What do you guys think?
