Re: 69 GMC Build, 20s, Full Frame, LS, Bagged, Bodied

The steering column is supposed to arrive this week as well, I think we are going to tackle getting the dash fit after the back wall is completed. We just need to head to the parts yard in between the snowstorms to find some seats that will work.

The column:

Re: 69 GMC Build, 20s, Full Frame, LS, Bagged, Bodied

We got the tunnel finished, floor patched back in and partially welded last night. Needs to be flipped and welded from the bottom but we will wait until the back wall is in place. Jason also picked up some bucket seats yesterday from a G6.

Re: 69 GMC Build, 20s, Full Frame, LS, Bagged, Bodied

Got the back wall cut out enough to make the new panels and fit them. Lots of trimming left on the back wall before they can be tacked in but its a good step in the right direction. I wish whoever attempted to swap floors in the past hadn't hacked the wall up so bad before, would have made our lives a lot easier!

Sheetmetal work looks awesome. What CAD program did you draw your frame on?

Re: 69 GMC Build, 20s, Full Frame, LS, Bagged, Bodied

And we're back! The back wall of the cab has been full welded, so we started on getting the dash in. To do that we had to get the seat and steering column mocked up.

You can see the column mount inside the cab. We reused mount for the stock column and built from there. The new steering wheel showed up just in time yesterday too.

We made a lip for the front of the dash to sit on.

Re: 69 GMC Build, 20s, Full Frame, LS, Bagged, Bodied

After trimming 6 inches or so out of the front of the dash and test fitting it, we cut it in half and got the drivers side clecoed on.

Name: IMG_0644.jpg
Views: 707

And then measured the passenger side to match and clecoed that in.

The dash is going in alot easier than we expected, what do you guys think? More to come...

Wow you guys really went all out on this one. How did you go about building the frame? Is it all fabbed up on a jig or did you guys just measure a ton and cut and weld accordingly? I have tossed around the idea of building my own frame but never knew where to start.

I started with getting a drawing of the frame to work from. From there I could start drawing in Solidworks with that as a reference.

Once I had the front and rear rails drawn, we double checked the measurements vs the stock frame. Those checked out ok, and I was able to break them down into lengths of what we needed to cut. I think there were 38 pieces total to build the frame.
Name: framedwg.jpg
Views: 637

After we had all that we built a frame table so we had a level surface to work off of and built the left and right side, squared them up and welded them together. If you look at the first page of thread, you can see most of the progression in the pictures.

EDIT: The links to the photos are broken in the first post, Ill get that fixed.
