Re: Looking for recommendations for a quiet performance muffler...

Another vote for the Spintech mufflers. I had a set on my 86, and will run another pair when i get it going again. I used mid-length headers, x-pipe, 2.5 inch pipe out the back and it sounded awesome. Very quiet in the cab but had a tone similar to the old 5 liter Mustangs with aftermarket exhaust and off road h-pipe. I think the reason they don't "drone" in the cab is because they are built like tanks.

They have so many different models, how do they break down noise-wise? I don't mind loud at WOT but don't want it so bad my wife and kids don't want to ride in the truck. They sure do sound awesome at idle w/a good cam.

The prostreet 6000's sound good. Would those be terribly loud at cruise with a 3" exhaust?

I have the pro streets on mine. They are on the upper end of the spectrum. Like what you would expect for a street strip vehicle. With tailpipes expect to talk a little louder and have the radio up. Will barely pass the cell phone inside test. The spintechs are built like tanks though. And no drone known yet.

Yah. Usually in a case like that it means that since your headers free flow so much that your actually over scavenging the exhaust and pulling out intake charge as well. A system with a minor amount of pressure can gain you some hp but getting a header that won't pull as much or changing the cam timing is harder than just outing on a muffler And only getting 3/4 power back from the over efficiancy.

You can take that same claim and apply it to several mufflers, there was a big test done yrs ago all the mufflers were with 5hp of eachother till you got to the more restrictive designs

Re: Looking for recommendations for a quiet performance muffler...

Looking for advice on my exhaust plans. I like the noise and rumble like anyone does, but I'm concerned with interior exhaust drone considering our trucks are tin cans with little to no sound deadening.

I'm picking up some long tube exhaust headers for my little 305, followed by 2.5 in pipes going into this muffler - Spintech Sportsman 3000, followed by a 3 in pipe over the axle and out the side behind the tire. What am I expecting for interior exhaust noise here?

You will hear it but don't strain your ears for drone.
Covering the inside of your doors will help a lot
