$-speed shifter options

Hello, friends!

I have a 1972 Chevy C-10 Fleetside Longbed. I have had a 3-speed Saginaw transmission wear out on me, and I have purchased a 4-speed Saginaw to replace it (really good deal). Now I need a shifter and linkage to go with it.

I know I could empty my wallet on a Hurst assembly, but right now money is so tight - well it's tighter than a bulls butt in choke-cherry season!!!! Anybody come across a place to find a decent shifter assembly that won't break the bank?

Your comments are appreciated.

Re: $-speed shifter options

You could always fabricate a handle, but the bench shifters are bit pricy :/

Re: $-speed shifter options

Best bet is a used Hurst, if you can find it. I just did this swap recently, and I bought the Hurst for a 57 Chevy with bench seat, because I had read it was the right one for our trucks with a bench. No dice.....still had to majorly modify the handle. It was about 6" to short, and that particular assembly has the handle as a one-piece assembly with the shifter.

BTW----that universal shifter from summit is a POS. Buddy of mine put one on his Muncie, lasted a week. And the handle won't fit at all unless you have buckets.

Thanks you guys! I placed an add on Craigslist, and I am looking into the other options. I appreciate the advice.
