Ram's Horns Lower Bolts
How do the lower bolts attach/ fit into the lower section of the Ram's Horns? I'm missing some nuts where they attach to the exhaust and they seem too rusty and too tight to thread on some replacements. I'm assuming I would have to tap/thread new bolts, not looking forward to that but would like to fix the leak on the passenger side.

Re: Ram's Horns Lower Bolts
Do you have a way to heat the nuts up? If you can get them hot, they should come off easy and replace with new ones. (3/8 x 16) If you need studs (the part the nut threads to) you will be better off letting an exhaust shop do that repair. If you break a stud off in the manifold, it is easier to pull the manifold off the engine and repair it on a bench.
Another method I have used is start the engine and let the engine heat heat the nuts up and see if you can snug them up that way. If you don't have the correct tools or experience, then I would take it to a exhaust shop / repair shop and let them do the work. It takes a long time to get a broken stud out if you don't have the correct tools. Good luck. |

Re: Ram's Horns Lower Bolts
Thanks for the nut size. I'll try to thread a nut on the stud that is missing one before trying to loosen/tighten any of the others and replace the gasket if I'm successful. I'd rather not mess with the studs other than that.

Re: Ram's Horns Lower Bolts
Sounds like a good plan and might save you some grief if it tightens everything up and stops the leak. I hate exhuast leaks. I would rather have a dead hole than an exhaust leak.

Re: Ram's Horns Lower Bolts
The exhaust studs/nuts are usually packaged together in the HELP section at most auto parts stores. The driver side studs are longer if you have a heat riser.
Those studs can be a PITA to get out sometimes. I had to use a torch on mine. Not too bad - if the manifolds are already off the engine and you have access to a torch that is. Good luck. Posted via Mobile Device |
