Powder coating wheels

I have got a quote to powder coat my 5 rims for my 67 for 200.00 dollars, That is sandblasted and painted. I thought it was a good price, but i have never had any powder coating done before. What is your guys opinions. Thanks

Local quotes I got were $50-$60 per wheel.

A local Bandag Tire dealer did it for me for $25/wheel. Sandblast and powdercoat (white). They have locations all across the country, including Springfield. Here's a list of all their locations: http://www.bandag.com/download/Bandag_DOT_Directory.pdf Good luck with it.

I had my new Wheel Vintiques wheels powder-coated, right out of the box. Seems it was $150 for the 4. Two are 15x8 and the others are 15x10. This was about 8 years ago.

That's a fair price. I get 80 dollars per wheel and have no shortage of work.

Thanks for the answers, now my next question is i have found a set of stock set of 15" steel wheels for 100 bucks, but i keep wanting to go with 16" wheels, i want to fill up my wheel wells with the skinny tires

Always buy what you want even if it takes longer. If you buy something less, you'll probably just wind up buying what you wanted anyway further down the road and you'll have wasted money.

$200 is great! I pay $65 each and I've had more wheels done by these guys for more years than I can remember. Think about it,would you even want to sandblast a wheel for $25? That's running a compressor,wearing on a tip,and using sand,as well as labor),then buy coating material,set-up,spray,and run oven for free? $25 per wheel is like working for $10 an hour using your equipment. I paid $25 a wheel in the $80s,when a new truck was about $13,000.

I do it myself at work but my buddy down the street says he charges 60 a wheel so it sounds like you are in the ballpark. Honestly I don't think that's a bad deal mainly because sand blasting can be a pain and even tho it doesn't take long (except for bakeing) you have to be around when the timer goes off and it's usually kinda hot thankless and there's cleanup afterwards. All in all 200 bones seems fair.

I had a place in Junction City do the ones on my 64 for $40.00 per wheel. Gloss Black. He said any color he had in stock was the same price.

One word of advise for anyone buying used steelies for powder coat:

Make sure they are not bent before you spend the money. Anyone with a tire balancer can mount one and spin it to check for a bend. Better safe than sorry. Sometimes you cannot see a bent wheel just by looking at it.

I've paid as low as $50/wheel (CA) and as high as $105/wheel (MD). Quality counts. I'd be tickled with $200/5 wheels. If you want stock steelies for a C10, there are not 16"ers available. You'd have to go with Stockton wheel or someone like that. If you are going aftermarket, then the sky is the limit. Personally, I'd let the TIRE fill the wheelwell (with a 75 series, or something like that), rather than the wheel doing it.

one color with blasting is $75 a wheel. Blasting is $20.a wheel here in central Il.The wheels I do (3 coat) I have no clue.I do it for friends and family.$80 a set.No more!!Do it your self.not only the wheels but brackets,pulleys,valve covers,etc...

What a day. Good thing was I bought the five 15 x6 wheels for 100 dollars. But as I was leaving the house about 3 miles down the road the low tire pressure sensor came on so I turned around to go back to the shop. Check the air in the tires and one had a puncture. So went to the tire shop and 940.00 dollars and 2 hours later I went on my way to go get the wheels. It was time for new tires anyway.
Four 275/60 /20's cost 940.00 and that is without any road hazard or tire rotation. All these years I always waisted money on that and not once ever used it. So why pay for it. That would of been another 111.00 dollars.
But any way I will hopefully drop the wheels off this week to get coated.

Yeah,ever since wheel sizes got stupid the cost of all tires has gone up big time. It was far more economical for tire companies to make the sizes used for half a century or more. First,it was large diameter hoops costing crazy money. Then automakers followed the trend and now just a good old 15" costs double because they're the exception and not nearly as many are sold. The standard has become the specialty.

I agree with special and would add tht some of the worlds rubber trees were destroyed in the Tsunami a few years ago.All rubber products have gone up drastically since then.
