Holley carb linkage
For the last couple of weeks I've noticed a feeling of a sticking throttle at hiway speeds. I'm cleaning it today and the problem seems to be that the ends of the choke shaft are binding on the extender to the air cleaner (sorry, don't know what to call it). It's just barely touching (at the points circled inthe pic) but enough to keep it from working freely. My first thought was to shave the extender slightly where it binds but that seemed like it wasn't really addessing the issue. Does the choke linkage look properly connected and has anyone else had this problem?

Re: Holley carb linkage
if you take the air cleaner riser off , does it work freely ? you should be able to get some lub and work it into the choke butterfly . work it back and forth while spraying it. also with it off take a few pic's of the linkage and both sides of the carb.

Re: Holley carb linkage
Thanks for the reply ole dollor. With the riser off the choke works just fine - moves very freely. It's seems as though the riser is just slightly too small and the ends of the linkage rub against the inside of the riser.

Re: Holley carb linkage
that would keep the choke butterfly from working properly , but should not hang up the throttle , i would say try and file the aircleaner spacer and get the clearence you need , and also check things like springs on the throttle and the front and rear butterflies in the throttle part of the carb. if yours is cable driven also unhook it and see if the cable may be coming apart , you should be able to feel it if it binding up...

Re: Holley carb linkage
Below are some pictures of what I did.
1) Made a "tool" out of a short piece of 1" copper pipe curved at one end to match the curvature of the collar. 2) Placed a ball peen hammer, ball end up, in a vise. 3) Carefully marked the spots on both locations on the collar to be relieved. 4) Placed the collar over the ball end of the hammer at the marked locations with the tool on opposite side of the collar and whacked it with a 2# hammer. It really didn't take that much of a hit. Not fancy, but it worked. Last edited by FirstOwner69; 06-01-2013 at 12:16 AM. |

Re: Holley carb linkage
That's a great idea. I'm giving that a try tomorrow and hopefully problem solved.
