Another muffler / exhaust question

Ive been looking at getting mufflers either online or trying to get a deal on some used ones.

My 2" exhaust pipes are rusted out and look like Brown Swiss Cheese.

So, I need a new system from My Ramhorns back, I want it loud, I like rumble, but not enough to get pulled over, and I am going all the way to the rear bumper.

My questions are:

1)How big a pipe should I run from a stock (kinda tired) 350 with ramhorns?

2)All the mufflers I look at have different offsets..I dont know the difference?

3) I'm thinking Flowmaster 40's but I dont know with the pipes going all the way back... can you still hear them without stomping on it?

Thanks....Paul

Re: Another muffler / exhaust question

Thrush came out with a new welded muffler for 30 bucks through Jegs. They say its a 2 chamber muffler, I bet it's just a cheaper, rebadged/boxed Flowmaster 40 series, but I could be wrong.

Re: Another muffler / exhaust question

I have 2 1/2 exhaust with 40 series flowmasters on my 74 Jimmy with a 350and headers that run to the back but out the sides. It has a nice rumble at idle and it's not too loud but it aint quiet when you stand on it. I like it alot. If you go with flows ask them to put a crossover in it, it gets pretty cackley if you don't.

Re: Another muffler / exhaust question

I love these mufflers by Spin-Tech. They have a deep rumble and no resonance at road speed. Here's a link:

Re: Another muffler / exhaust question

Time to awaken a 6 year old thread. I just put the Jegs 2 chambered mufflers on my 69 with 2 1/4" pipe and it sounds exactly like a 40 series. I love it and I couldn't beat the price at $60 for two, that's one Flowmaster.
