Uh-oh, might have problems

Drove my old 65 c60 yesterday, had just finished rebuilding the brake system and wanted to do a road test, so I guess I put about 25 miles on the old truck, ran great quiet as a mouse, we'll I went to move it this morning and I've developed an engine noise, I'm defiantly sure its not a bearing, I've had rod and mains turn in engines before and know the noise well, I'm leaning toward a lifter or rocker, I've had rocker studs pull out of heads before, but is it possible to lose a lifter from one day to another? gonna head out and pull the valve cover and check rockers for tightness, anybody have any thoughts? I never seem one develop a noise like this one day to another.

OK this is what I found, was #6 intake, had to happen on startup because the truck was quiet yesterday, any ideas as to the cause?

Really old varnished fuel + a low mileage engine with tight valve guides? Is the valve still stuck?

Valves not stuck now, after the bend truck was still running, no miss, just the noise, valve was opening, just the rocker arm was hammering, had to pull the side cover off the get it out. I had thought I had lost a lifter, never had one do this to me.

Re: Uh-oh, might have problems

Well after working on the truck this morning the same valve stuck in the open position, so now I know the cause, been spraying it with PB blaster and gentle tapping on the valve, the valve finally closed on its on. I disconnected the coil and rolled the motor over several times, seems to be working fine right now, I guess time will tell. I like the big 6, but might still go with a 454, then I can build the 292 and put it in my 66 c10

Bummer on the bent PR/ sticky valve(s). IMHO, 454 might be
easier than your 292, when parts shopping or adding accessories.

Re: Uh-oh, might have problems

I'm leaning that way right now, I have a fresh 454 in a 1975 c20 that is not being used, I have a good 350 sitting in the barn, I'd like to put the 350 in the c20 then sell it, 454 in the c60, and then replace the 250 in my 66 c10 with the 292, looks like I have alot of work ahead of me!
