Bag kits

Hey guys. Been looking all around at suspension for MONTHS now. Debated pro touring style set ups. Looked and the standard static drops. Im about 75% set now

I've talked with a few guys that own custom shops and buddies of mine who run different set ups and they all are pushing me to go bags. I dont need to lay frame or anything but from what Im being told the ride benefit of bags is the overall best option. Do you agree?

So as Im shopping for bags I believe Ive settled on the Accuair E-level controller, seems to be the most advanced point and shoot install. Im new to bags so Ive been looking for stores and sites that sell kits. So far the best place Ive found is AVS here in central cal (Fresno) which is not too far from me. Their site is VERY user friendly and sets up your entire setup for you in drop box options.

All that for my main question; Where is everyone getting their bag set-ups, what brand and series (and why that brand if you dont mind), and what made you go with bags in the first place? (Im sure a lot of the answers will be you want to lay frame, but what other benefits over static drops).

Thanks for the help guys, Im VERY new to bags so any help is appreciated,

Re: Bag kits

I'd be interested in this info as well. I'm planning on doing a 4/6 drop for the mean time, but would eventually like to get bags. I hear Accuair and Air Ride are the way to go, but it all depends on the setup.

I was debating the 4/6 for months from ECE as they are out of Fresno as well. But I would hate to spend the $800 or however much their kit is and then want to go lower or not like the stance. Im more into the bull dog muscle look rather than the small rake a lot of guys run.

Re: Bag kits

I have the Accuair eLevel and its by far the best system out there. Is all plug n play, the EXO mount ties it all together in one easy to mount package and the eLevel system is amazing. The ride is better than any static drop suspension. If you want the ride stiffer, you just add more air. Easy.

Square_78 : do you have any pictures of your Exo accuair mount? I'm curious where you mounted it. I have a shortbed so I guess your setup might not work on a shortbed but I would love to see how you did it! Sounds like a killer setup!!

I have done a bunch of static and bag research. I had planned on getting the accuair elevel kit and ride tech stage 2 bag kit (minus the tank and controller). When I priced out what I wanted, it was a bit over my budget so I went with EVe 4/6 static kit and am in the process of restoring my frame and all the suspension. I still have regrets that I should have gone bagged because I want a good ride and I was a bagged stance and the adjustablity. I will eventually go bagged but my wallet didn't support it at the time. I would definitely say accuair elevel is the only way to go and I think the ride tech kit is a good one but not sure the best but still very good.

Get everything from ECE for the 4/6 drop,... EXCEPT the coil springs.
Replace the springs with 2600 series bags.
(I like RE-7's or SS-7's from Slam Specialties)

Bolt the rear bags directly to the frame and use bag plates & cups up front.

Then just add your air management.

Everything as in the shocks, relocators, what else? I already have drop spindles.

drop shocks (front and rear)
rear shock relocators
ECE Super Track bar.

Personally,... I would add a bolt in c-notch and 2" drop blocks for the rear.
C-notches can be purchased from Porterbuilt, CPP, McGaughy's, or Performance Online.

Why drop blocks? I was leaning toward 4-link... Is one better?

Smart. I've never thought about this option. I will seriously consider this! Thanks for the idea. I already have the ece 4/6 so I just need some bags and accuair.

Re: Bag kits

you will never turn back once you go bagged
not everyone wants to go low and just want the bags for the ride
if performance is what your looking for then i would go to scotts performance
if you want bags you can mount bags in the stock locations of your springs and still get a great ride, theres nothing like driving a truck that feels like a caddy

I thought your were concerned about budget?\

The lowering blocks help keep your ride height low.
You do have to run a certain amount of air in the bags for a good ride.
(I run 50 psi in my rear bags at ride height)
Plus you don't want it to look like a 4x4 going down the road.

Budget is always a factor. But, I will save to get quality. Or sell my soul. Whichever come first.

I get the ride height thing. If I went with 4-link would ride height be an issue you think?

Ride height will be determined by YOU when installing a custom 4 link.
Or by the kit you choose.
(Porterbuilt or other versions).
Personally I think you can accomplish what you want with the trailing arm design.
Any extreme drop in the back will have to be matched by an equally low set up in the front.
Like a Dropmember or other aftermarket crossmember.

But if you are just installing bags in place of the coil springs,... I see no need for a 4-link.

That's really good to know. I'm still very new to the idea of bags. I've been told handling was improved with a 4-link, thus my reasoning. The kit I was looking at on the Avs site included the 4-link setup.

Re: Bag kits

My EXO mount is bolted to the side of the frame (drivers side) between the cab and the rear wheel. It's pretty hard to see or take pics of. It tucks perfectly under the side of the bed.

I got my locally at KMS car parts here in Kelowna. They are an Accuair dealer.

A 4link would be an upgrade from a leaf spring setup but its pretty much the same thing as your stock trailing arm setup. The "improved handling" is subjective though. Are you planning to auto cross race the truck? If not then I doubt you will notice a difference. Don't waste your money if you are on a budget.
