Re: Dash Lights Not Working

This might sound stupid, but when was the last time you replaced the bulbs? It's odd that the lights for some gauges work and some don't.

Re: Dash Lights Not Working

Have you checked the headlight switch. It dims and brightens the dash lights maybe the headlight switch is defective or you dimed the dashlights untill they are off? Just a thought.

Check the tail lamp fuse .The dash lights are on the same fuse if I remember correctly. The idea was to give you a heads up if you have no rear tail lights. It kills the running lights . Not the turn or brake lights.

Re: Dash Lights Not Working

did you change anyother wires in the cluster plug
may want to take the cluster out and check the grey wire in # 2
for power with a meter to ground
and i've noticed the "board" can shift a bit may not be connecting at the plug?

Re: Dash Lights Not Working

the grey wire should be # 2 spot
if there is two one goes to the heater light?
if your grey is in the right spot, try adding a ground to that negative side?
everything else runs ok ,off that negative side of the cluster?
in my 78 all the grounds go down to one just behind the cluster,

what i see in the diagrams, appears to go from the fuse box ,splits to heater and dash lights

Re: Dash Lights Not Working

I checked to see if the ground was ok and it was. So I took a thin screwdriver pushed
it down into the #2 slot with the two grey wires and jumped a wire from the green one
to the grey wire...it worked.I took the jumper wire off and the dash lights STAYED ON.
I figured out by accident what was wrong. When I pushed that little screwdriver into
the grey slot the plug must have been loose..Strange things.....O well they are working and I THINK YOU ALL FOR THE HELP...............Breadman

Re: Dash Lights Not Working

I have an interesting problem on my 82 went to change the bulbs, except all 5 bulbs are good, the top three do not work the bottom two do.

This was also an attempt to lube the speedo cable.... also on my Oil pressure gauge it reads zero and no or intermittent voltage on the prong.

Now i'm not sure ifs the Pressure sender unit or the gage is bad.

I'm about to make the case for custom autometer possibly in a pro comp!

I'd pull the cluster back out, check the lube didn't go some where it shouldn't

check the bulbs while out,
wires run under the bulb to socket,
socket/ board /copper paths/and plug has good contact

Re: Dash Lights Not Working

Thanks, Its still mostly apart, i think its a contact issue, i was able to wiggle one of them to get enough contact to get the bulb to light up as well as the voltage tester.

I just went ahead and ordered new sockets from Classic Chevrolet parts, they are all of 99 Cents a piece, or $1.98 considering i ordered a bulb for each one too.

The bonehead thing i broke the needle on the shift indicator that was a $20 Mistake, also ordered one of those

Re: Dash Lights Not Working

Update, pulled the white cluster panel out checked the connections with an ohm meter, cleaned it up a little, plugged the main bulb back in (for th 4x4 light) all came on, just needed the connections cleaned and reset.

always the tough fixes i know, also took the time to put some plastic wire protection over all the wiring harnesses, $11 bag from the local farm/ranch supply place.
