71/72 Cheyenne Super Glovebox question...

The "original" Supers I've seen all have a narrow trim ring around the woodgrain section (ok, not sure if it's a "ring" but - you know, the shiny thingy) - but I've never seen it sold anywhere. I've never actually seen one in person (I know, I gotta get out more...) - actually, I've only owned Cheyennes (non-supers) and whenever I've seen a Super in person, I just never thought to LOOK at that little detail. Anyone got a close up shot/description of it?

Was the original woodgrain from the factory an applique like the aftermarket ones are now? The lack of the trim always seems to be a dead giveaway of a cloned Super, so I never really understood why folks did just the wood with no trim - or if maybe they were just waiting til they could find that specific trim, or something else. I always really liked my 'ol body color glovebox, but kinda curious about some of the Super details.

Thanks!

Oh yeah, while we're at it - I saw a post the other day that said that the Super tailgate handle was chrome (chrome cover in 72). I've NEVER noticed that either - is the actual handle chrome/covered with a chrome cover - or is it just the trim above the tailgate. Pic would be helpful to point out what's different about the tailgate of the Super. I've seen many pics of Supers, but still never seen the tailgate specifics pointed out. Thanks for your patience with a 60-66 kinda guy... I owned my Cheyenne in high school, which was a "few" years ago

Re: 71/72 Cheyenne Super Glovebox question...

actually the handle was chrome in 71 and a stainless cover in 72. As far a the glove box it is an aluminum panel that is affixed to the actual door. The panel has a rased bead and that is the Trim you see around the woodgrain. To my knowledge the applique (aluminum) is not reproduced and the woodgrain for the glovebox door originally was a silk screen like the door panels which makes the stickers a dead give-away

Here is another pic of some more doors. On a couple of the doors you can see the woodgrain in nearly worn off and one shows how it was glued on.

In the past these used ones were good to have rebuilt, but now finally the aluminum piece is just starting to be reproduced.

Re: 71/72 Cheyenne Super Glovebox question...

A little bit of money, work, and time. I used some very very hard to find woodgrain to match the factory pattern on the glovebox door. Trevor

Here's an example of CSM's woodgrain applique. For comparison, I took pics next to a non-faded 71 Super GB door and a roll of NOS GM woodgrain for a non-truck application. I may try to make use of the NOS woodgrain down the road as that looks close. Thanks Jason for the GB door!
