steering has a wind

hi, When I turn steering wheel I have a winding noise.it does it mainly when I turn to the left.Power steering pump has been replaced.i have had this for a while and would like to fix it.My friend was listening under truck as I was turning wheel.He thought it was coming from power steering geer box.Any thoughts on this. thanks

Any more thoughts on this. probly will end up changing out geer box.what years would work for a 72. all help appreciated

Have you bled it properly? 71-87. with proper lines(flanges may differ) will interchange.

My wife's 2004 Yukon did the same thing. Whined when turning left. It gradually happened more and more and did it on every slower speed left turn.
Yesterday I bought a replacement rebuild steering gear -- Lares, put it on and bled it -- has hydroboost also. Problem went away. Does not whine anymore.

Just did a new box on my truck today. Old one had been making noise since the last bleed, and started leaking.

Moral of the story is its fairly easy to do and not that expensive. $125 for a reman box at napa with the aaa discount.

Drain the pump and lines and fill the whole system with fresh fluid. Should do the trick.
