Are the hoses 2 different diameters? I bought som 3/4 heater hose but its to large to go on the tilting in the intake. Must be 5/8"?

Re: Heater hoses

GM likes to use both 5/8" and 3/4".
Don't know why.

Re: Heater hoses

So if I'm standing at the front of the truck looking at the lines coming through the firewall, which one goes to the water pump?

Re: Heater hoses

I've never figured out the "why" either but GM has done that on almost everything since they built. I'd imagine it has something to do with helping the coolant flow back to the water pump.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Don't know this for a fact, but I think I remember an old timer telling me it was bigger on the return side for expansion. He said it was comparative to draining the coolant from the tractors in the winter time, when water cools down it's volume increases.

Sounds a little rediculous to me, I wouldn't think the small amount of heat the heatercore removes from the fluid would be enough to cause that kind of expansion, but the theory does make sense.

Re: Heater hoses

It's common practice to make the suction side larger than the pressure side on a liquid pumping system. The water pump is the suction side.
