Short Wide Drops, bring em all...

Ok, trying to get the daughter to pic how she wants her truck to look when the suspension is setup. But, she cant do it without visual aids...

So post them up, calling all pics of your drops, from dramatic to just slight! Please also include how you dropped them, this way when she picks one of your stances I can mirror it with her truck! Please and Thank You!

Re: Short Wide Drops, bring em all...

Roughly 3" and 3" -

Cut coils in front, relocated spring hangers in rear. Total cost of drop was about $1.38 for a fist full of grade 8 bolts (plus an alignment).

Tires are P235/75R15.

Been a daily driver for 27 years; 200,000 miles with no issues.

This is how I want my 79 short to look. Can you provide a little more info on how you lowered the rear?

I would also like to know how you did the rear as well. I like this height myself but ultimately it is her call.

Relocated Spring hangers in the rear??? Can you give a little more on how you did this as well? Im thinking if she wants to run 20" rims this might be the height it needs to be...

Re: Short Wide Drops, bring em all...

It is the standard drop hangers and shackles. Then I added 3in drop leafs. when I was done is was sitting hard on the bottom outs. I took those out now i HAVE 4 1/2IN axel travel. Bolted my buddy's 20's on it just for fun. It looked SICK. Just don't have cash for new wheels right now.

Jewbacca, where did you get the drop leafs? and which shackles/hangers.

And about what was the total cost on your drop if you don't mind me asking?
Been getting ready to drop mine, but blowin my motor set my timeframe back a little, so I have a little more time to plan the drop now.

Re: Short Wide Drops, bring em all...

Most photo hosting sites here at work are blocked. Few I can access are a PITA.

My 87 (sig pic) is about 6/8.
Trying from memory here, I did the final drop back in '96.
4" spindles & 2" springs up front
Flip kit & 2" hangars in the back
Can't remember where I got them.

Re: Short Wide Drops, bring em all...

My lowering kit was 2.5" spindles and 2" springs front and a flip kit for the rear. Everything's from McGaughy's. Here's a link to the kit:
http://www.mcgaughystore.com/mcgaugh...it-part-93150/

The front dropped a bit more than advertised, but the fender bottom just covers the tires, which is where I wanted it. I also had to swap the rear leafs side to side because the standard issue square body gas tank lean was very pronounced at this height.

Hey Keith, when you relocate in the rear are there different amounts of drop you can lower the rear or is 3" the only amount you can get?

Basically it is cutting the rivets and re-bolting the spring hangers higher on the frame rail. Obviously there is a little more to it than that but that is the general concept. I can give you some more details if you decide to pursue it.

You can go lesser amounts but 3" is about the max. Anything beyond that and the hangers start to travel off the top of the frame rail.

Moving the bottom bolt of the rear hanger into the top bolt of the rail results in 3". I also run the shackle eye bolt through the rail, using a spacer, ending up with 3 attachments (two grade 8 bolts plus the shackle bolt).

Shackle eye bolt running through frame rail, with spacer:

Keith, would there be any weakening in the hanger if you trimmed off a couple of inches from the top to get a full 4in drop? Im thinking it would be fine.

That's the exact stance and kit I want to use. How was it to install? Any problems/issues?
