Wiring Harness

My fuse box and pretty much all my wiring in my 1966 C10 Fleetside LB is shot. Want to put a new wiring harness in. I see everyone saying painless but I dont have $500. Is there a difference between painless and say this one?

Re: Wiring Harness

The Classic Update Series from American Autowire is also a good choice.

The cheap ones like those on Ebay are universal and usually do not include any switches, light pigtails, connectors that you really need, etc. They also are not designed to work with specific components.
If you like wiring from scratch the cheap route is the way to go. The Painless and American Autowire are more "plug and play" working with the parts you have with the right ends.

But my opinion is biased, I am a Painless ,and American Autowire dealer and wire trucks for a living.
Another point to consider, no matter what you purchase, is who do you contact for warranty concerns. Chances are the person selling on ebay does not manufacture the parts. Chose something you can get service on in case of a malfunction, or at least get technical assistance from.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Re: Wiring Harness

Didnt think about customer service part.
I would like to add extra things to the truck...electric fan...I have auto meter gauges in it right now....etc.....would the stock painless wiring harness still be best or is there a different year harness that would work better? Like one with more circuits.

There are 3 different variants. All have the capability to work with stock components or upgraded components such as aftermarket gauges, aftermarket steering columns, one wire alternator and the ability to add fused options such as power windows, locks, etc. The higher end kit replaces all of your light sockets and switches from front to back.

This harness can be bought cheaper than listed at places like ebay and Summit.
