Can You Show Me Some Stripes
Okay...I'll be at the paint shoppe with the 68/71 as of Wed. So I have some time. Painter Lee has agreed to give me the truck back after scuffing the first coat of clear so I can drive to
the striper for some of Kevin's tasty work. Kevin lives about 45 miles away...which is a bummer for me....but his work, as evidenced on the pics attached... First one is shortly after I first got the 72 back (in '03), but barely shows the stripes. The second pic is the 72 in the local show last Saturday which was put on by the guy who bought the '72 from me a few years ago. The stripes on the '72 were put on *over* the clear-coat. I didn't want to do that then, but the '72 was in paint jaul for 56 weeks after a 16 week promise (Not Lee...someone no longer in business...). I wanted her back. So I was "forced" to do it that way. Kevin is good, for sure. But he likes a little direction. On the '72, I told him to flame it all over, but make them subtle enough so they only really stand out when someone comes close. This, happily enough for me, was what he came up with. Can any or all of you show me some ideas, or give me some pics that will help me show Kevin some "tailored" stripes....I like the flames. Still do. But I'm twelve years older now. And this one's going Palladium Silver Metallic (same as on the Mercedes, here). It probably calls for something a little more "quiet" We had to pass up a vacation and hock the dog for the paint money, so I don't want to go into the stripes blind. I'd really appreciate some pics, if possible.

Re: Can You Show Me Some Stripes
If there was any way I'd move that in a closed trailer or bring the striper to the truck. Just can't see driving or open hauling a fresh paint job that you are planning on overcoating more.
Now for the importat question.. How do you "hock the dog"? That would be a great threat to keep my pack in line.

Re: Can You Show Me Some Stripes
When I paint something I bring the striper in I'll give him an idea of what the customer wants and he sees something different I give him the space and he's always right. Give the artist an idea of the style you want and let him run with it. I agree with Tim pay a little extra and have him come to you. No need to contaminate the surface and cause fisheyes and other problems......so does this mean you'll stop calling Rat.....LOL

That's why some pics always help. I don't think I can get Kevin to travel. He's really the king of striping around here, and everyone *goes to him*. Maybe I should just go with the stripes over the clear like last time. But, based on what you guys have said, I'm not taking it on a 50-60 mile run with the first coat of fresh clear. Even if I let it harden for a while. It's about the contaminants, no? And, yeah. I'll probably have to go for a new plate. Now, if the %$#*&er gives me any problems between now and a new name? She stays "RAT". No matter how pretty her lipstick is.

Re: Can You Show Me Some Stripes
Nice, Toxic and Brutha.
Since I'm not incorporating big stripe into the scheme, I have to hold back to just pinstripes. I should have said that more clearly/ But what a treat to look at your trucks. You guys both have great paint schemes.

Re: Can You Show Me Some Stripes
I used to think stripes only looked good on Chevelles...I don't think that anymore! Nice trucks!

As you probably know, horror stories abound on this one, DGulliver. They're known as "paint jail". For example, my '72 was done by a reputable shop. Needed close to zero body work. I was promised 12 weeks (their main business is insurance...we've all heard that one). They had it either 54 or 56 weeks. I visited at least 12 times and it was always a little something "getting in the way". The shop did good work, but now they are history. Told too many people "yes", I guess. This is a side-view of the now sold '72.
