Okay, when the engine's hot it still cranks, but slowly, right? That's not the solenoid, but much more likely the timing is too far advanced for the engine's liking. You say the timing is right, but what's it actually set at?

I've always timed my Chevy V8's by advancing them until they either A) start to detonate (ping) and/or B) are hard to start when hot. Sure, I could set 'em to what the book says, but every engine is different. I've had some that would let me get away with 14 degrees and others that wouldn't take more than 10.

Either way, I'll be a gen-u-wine dollar bill that's the problem.
