Ah--this thread just pointed out an anomaly on my 67 long stepside. It has both--a "smooth" fender and a side-mount spare. I am going to guess that this is an installation by a PO. I have not had the truck that long--I guess I should take the spare off and see what it going on. There seems to be room between the cab and the fender for the tire, but it sure doesn't look like all the others.
