Highlander Survivor For Sale - NOT MINE

I usually don't post craigslist ads but somebody on here might want this one.

A kid I know from Eau Claire was telling me about a black and white highlander long before I saw this ad on craig's. There was no doubt in his mind it is a true survivor.

That truck belongs in the GM Heritage Museum. To buy it and drive it would be a sin imo.

that would be cool if it is real.....would love to see a bunch of documented pictures for those wanting to rebuild a 100% original truck if it is the case...

Re: Highlander Survivor For Sale - NOT MINE

Wasn't there another thread about that truck and the Ford a little while back?

I'm not good at remembering specifics.

Can I quote myself? Ha! I just did.
This kid I'm referring to just turned 17 and darn near got his hands on it before this re-seller dude got it. He is currently restoring a 72, his dad has a 72 with a camper in it, and his dad has one sweet '63 that he restored quite a while ago. He is sure it is a survivor and I believe he would know.

Next time I see him - he has a cabin near my house but isn't around every weekend - I'll see if he still knows where it is and if he can get some better pictures like of the SPID, the undercarriage, etc.

Re: Highlander Survivor For Sale - NOT MINE

I looked at the truck last Thursday. The documentation is badly water damaged ,as is the truck bed. The owner stored the truck outside under a tarp. Not an ideal way to preserve what is most certainly as advertised. There is a rust hole in the passenger door and the cab smells as musty as is possible. Only drive with the windows down musty. The green highlander seat looks brand new. I'm new to site, trying to post photos.. The under coating looks like it was put on yesterday. There are holes in the wooden bed from water damage.

Notice the grain on the steering wheel, the grain isn't as strong as the repops. This truck was stored wrong but can still answer alot of restoration questions

So how much is he asking?
He left that out of the craigslist ad. A tactic I'll never understand. I mean I get the you want as much as you can get but I'm not going to tell you what your stuff is worth.

Re: Highlander Survivor For Sale - NOT MINE

He runs an auto salvage yard in Eau Claire. He claims to have a standing offer, sight unseen, of $16,000, and also said he turned down a check for $18,000 at the Iola car show. I did not make an offer. The truck started easily and runs like a new truck. He did not offer to let me drive it. The very strong mold smell and moisture damage around the doors and in the bed kept me from wanting to pay that kind of money. I took a lot of photos but to get them to post they have to be shrunk as you can see from my first post. The truck is in a shed, no way to get whole truck shots with my camera, small shed...I'm not sure what he would accept if you showed up with cash, but he talking about selling it with Barrett Jackson, evidently they had a rep at the Iola car show that he talked to.

...I fully agree and I never understand why people are negligent on posting an (asking) price...or they say 'make an offer'.
I think these people want your phone call, and your ear...for a 25 minute upsell job.....followed eventually by (usually) an inflated price.
If you are extremely confident in where you are at financially with the item and the ability to either keep it or sell it, then listing the price is easy.
.....ok, bit off topic here I suppose.
Anyone know what he is asking for the truck?

Re: Highlander Survivor For Sale - NOT MINE

such a shame...outside all those years...like that other recent option with those never-titled vehicles left outside for 40-50 years. Just makes no sense...they had the right idea and would have had super valuable vehicles...but now...not so much.

That truck would probably go for 30-40k+ to the right person if it had been stored in a climate controlled area. (50k plus if it were a swb) Now...I can't imagine someone paying over 10-15k...

sounds like he's wanting over 20k since he's turned down 18k...or at least says he has

Re: Highlander Survivor For Sale - NOT MINE

The gentleman who owned the truck was a wwII vet who came home from the war, bought 10 acres of wooded property just outside of Eau Claire and lived there the rest of his life in a camper with no running water etc. He worked at Uniroyal Tire in Eau Claire and died recently at age 93 from complications of one of his trucks rolling onto his leg. He was a recluse who could have cared less about the value of his trucks, he also had a 78 Ford pickup in the same condition with only a few hundred miles on it at the time of his death.

Re: Highlander Survivor For Sale - NOT MINE

I also walked around the truck at iola. When people know what they have and still refuse to put a number on it even though they are trying to sell it, i just kept walking. I knew the story before i looked at it and it has been for sale for awhile. I think the owner is just fishing... it is a nice truck, but poor storage killed alot of the low mile value for me. If i recall the tailgate had rust and the bumper was pushed into the boxside also.
