What size radiator?
I'm thinking about getting a new radiator for my 1972 Chevy 6 cylinder, manual 3 speed on column. I see (what looks to me) a lot of calcium build up both inside and outside of my radiator.
What size of radiator would I put in it? Is Tucker's a good source for radiators? |

Re: What size radiator?
I put a 4 row in mine.If yours is stock,it's most likely a 2 row.I wanted the upgrade for a later planned install of A/C.Either should cool a 6 just fine.If you go 4 row,you will have to have new mounts and cushions(about$30 from most BB vendors). My rad was right at $200 from Advance Auto.I wen to the warehouse to get it since I would have had to wait a couple days to get it otherwise. It's a stock replacement.

Re: What size radiator?
Hey man thanks! I might go on and upgrade mine to a larger one also...thanks for the mount tips. Advance Auto eh? There is one right down the road from me and they are cool as all get out to deal with. I'll bet they are cheaper too and I'm in no hurry.
If I get this thing back on the road by the fall, I'll feel "victorious." Thanks again! |

Hey PanelDeland,
What was the part number and did it have the heater bypass hookup on the passenger side? Thanks Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: What size radiator?
Called my local Advance Auto: they can get me a radiator but not for less than $400.00!
I'll try some other outlet shops. |

Re: What size radiator?
Sorry,I think I lied.I may have used the O'Rielly's.I don't have the part # but I will look to see if I have it.It does have the heater bypass inlet.

Re: What size radiator?
Unless you plan on upgrading to a V-8 and A/C, I don't see the need for you to go with a 4 row radiator.
Let me see what I can drop ship you a radiator for. I used to work at a radiator shop. I will get back to you once I talk to him.

Re: What size radiator?
No need to upgrade at all.....but if it will work a bit better at keeping temps down, why not?
If I did get a bigger radiator, would I need a more powerful water pump also? Thanks for the offer man! This site rocks. |
