Fuel tank brackets

Hey guys. When I got my truck, the gas tank was in the bed (with NOTHING holding it down )

Now I think it's time to get the gas tank in the frame. It's a 16 gallon tank. My main question is where can I get brackets!? They're expensive on ebay and I don't want to pay over a hundred bucks for them. No junkyards around here have them either. I want to put the fuel tank on the driver's side, btw.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Fuel tank brackets

Got my straps at Oreilly's for $30.00. They are almost identical to the OEM straps. Mine is a '73.

Re: Fuel tank brackets

the straps are readilly available at advanced or other auto parts stores.. the brackets themselves ( which attach to the frame and the straps attach to these) you can prolly get used from any of the guys parting trucks in our classifieds

Re: Fuel tank brackets

Just went down this road... I ended up using the rusty ones from my donor truck that are going to need work...

VERY few places sell them, and they go for about $180 for a pair... Sad truth... Classic Parts has them. Which leaves you with the option of making your own brackets, find someone parting, or get bent over...

you can check out my work log in my signature for pictures of the brackets. I need to weld on some fresh metal, and weld new nuts on the back of the front bracket.

Go ahead and order new straps. A trick is using a bike inner tube to sleeve the straps. A trick I learned from those before me.

I've used roofing felt strips, @ 3-4" wide, wrapped all the way around the tank at the straps. It almost looks like the factory squeak pads.

Re: Fuel tank brackets

Nice that is not a bad price at all. I remember mine were in kind of bad shape but had no luck finding any new ones cheap so I just modified and made them work Ya I used radiator hose sliced in half to wrap around my straps when I did my tanks cause that's all I had available worked fine though.
