Re: Rally wheels

I believe everyone uses a color called "Argent Silver." Not sure if that is the original color or not.

Re: Rally wheels

I've done them in single stage silver, but you really should consider a clear topcoat for added durability. Silver powdercoat is just like silver paint in that its not terribly long term durable without being cleared.

The added clear really adds to the bling level too.

Re: Rally wheels

I never really asked but is there a "Clear" powder coating? I mean why not right?

Re: Rally wheels

Sure there's all varieties of clear powder. Everything from dead flat to full gloss. There are clears with built in sparkles, tints, you name it.

The wheels I posted above are silver base with full gloss clear topcoat. You shoot the base, do a partial cure, shoot the clear, and cure again. The base and the clear melt together during the second cure cycle.

I clear most every job I coat, but I'm vain and made my reputation as being the king of bling. It really adds to the visual "pop".

Re: Rally wheels

I bought a set of Wheel Vintiques 15x8 and 15x10's for my '69, and had 'em powder coated in red. My goal is to paint the truck black.

When I wanted new wheels for my '96, I went back to Summit Racing and got a set in 16x7 for all 4 corners. I scuffed the silver powdercoat, then sprayed them with Dupli Color and then I cleared them. The color is a GM color that coordinates with my dark red interior.

Re: Rally wheels

I've had good success with Krylon's "Dull Aluminum" if you can find it. (I ordered mine direct, by the case.)

I has a touch more flake than "Argent", and looks excellent with clear over it on rallys, grilles, etc. It matches the GM original silver really well.
