Bed Wood
I know that most folks that replace their bed wood tend to use a nice hardwood that will be stained/sealed for the natural wood look. I am interested in painting my wood the stock black. My question is: What kind of paint did the factory use to accomplish this or maybe a better question is what would be the modern solution? Thanks and pictures are always helpful.

according to gmc pauls it was linseed oil with lamp black. I always thought it was black paint too.

Re: Bed Wood
Did some research and found on Mar K site a very interesting side by side comparison of several finishing systems. And believe it or not, their Black Paint system was the most durable! A simple coating of 3 coats of POR-15 black rust preventative, followed by several coats of Behr Gloss Black Oil base.
Here's the link: http://www.mar-k.com/wood_finish_testing_ii.aspx Be sure to click on the follow up review from 2010, after 5 consecutive years in the Oklahoma sun, rain, snow etc.

Re: Bed Wood
Just finished redoing the wood in my suburban floor. I am planning on putting carpeting over it anyway, just in case it didn't turn out nice. Well, it looks pretty good and will definitely use it when I do the bed wood on my truck.
