6 lug to 5 lug.....'64 C10
So instead of swapping out a complete rear differential I decided to just pull the axels and weld up the old 6 lug configuration and have the axels re drilled to a 5 on 5 bolt pattern.
What I would like to know is: Since I am pulling the axels, I assume I should replace the axel bearings and seals and want to know what else I should look at changing while I have this all apart? New 5 lug drums, new brake pads, replaced the rear brake cylinders..... anything else need to be addressed??

A guy would have to be a total moron to spend $500 on that kit when he can do the conversion for about $180 with new drums, re drilling the axels and changing the bearings.

I wouldn't buy them. I'm too cheap for that hence my username. I was just throwing it out there that they were available.

Couldn't you also redrill the drums when you drill axles?

Well got the axels re-drilled, new brake drums off a '72 for the 5 lug, new bearings, new seals and c clips. Total investment about $200.00
I will caution anyone considering having this done that they check the machine shops work prior to leaving their shop, something I did not do. Found out after I had everything almost put back together that they did not mill the center of the axel down quite far enough to fit the drums I had and it was a PITA to die grind the center out of the drum but I got it to fit after an hour of messing with it. I am not a mechanic and this wasn't that hard to do.
